If this has already been covered, consider this a reminder.
To all military reservists, if your home of record is more than 100 miles away from your unit and you RON there for inactive duties, you can still claim mileage, 50% of M&IE, and lodging expenses up to the federal per diem rate, even if you do not itemize.
If your accountant says you cannot do this, have him or her search for Topic Number 511 on irs.gov.
