Non Rev boarding issues
What's the best way to complain? I just came home from PHX and an S3 and an S3C were boarded in Comfort ahead of us. I have the info from the "Cleared list" Happened back in January and frankly, it happens most of the time I nonrev or DH. I walk back to coach and see empty Comfort seats at pushback.
Is an FCR appropriate or call the pass bureau, union, CPO? |
You can FCR it but probably a better way is the travelnet survey
|
My biggest issue is with JS reservation, if you reserve the JS, there should be an automatic S3 check in. If there’s a seat you can choose if you want the seat or the JS. Sometimes the flight is full and some seats open at the end. I’ve been times seating in the JS while a regional pilot gets the last seat in comfort +.
Also, if the flight is delayed and you want to non-rev but the original departure time has passed, good luck trying to get the agent to list you. |

AA has this. When the JSeater checks in ONLINE!, he can choose what type of pass. When they are clearing the standby list, agent calls them and ask if they want seat or JS.
You can also see who’s a jumpseater in their standby list, even if they are not reserved in the JS. |

The catch with the AA system is you can't actually reserve the jumpseat, meaning it just goes in seniority order based on who's checked in. Our system of knowing far in advance that you have basically a guaranteed seat is still much better.

AA can reserve jumpseat basically 8 days in advance. It’s then theirs, regardless of seniority. First come first serve. |

But isn't AA's nonrev list by time of checkin, ie no seniority consideration?
JS reserve have the option to get a seat when his turn is. If there’s no JS reserved, the JS goes by AA Senirity. If there’s no AA Pilot, it goes to American Eagle by check in time. Then OAL. |

I don't really have problem with that. I have a confirmed jumpseat and it ending up that someone else got on who wouldn't have if I had gone regular nonrev strikes me as a fair trade. I'll definitely take it over the UAL system where listing for the jumpseat lets you list in back but you can be bumped by anyone senior at any time before door closure.
Also there are times where there’s enough seats on the plane for everybody. It would be nice to be seated in comfort +, window or isle vs getting a middle seat at the end of the plane because you had to wait until the end. |

The statement was about AA's NON-REV list, not the JS. Someone fawned over the AA system, but I believe their non-revs are cleared by order of checkin, not on seniority basis like Delta. |
NWA allowed you to book both but post merger somebody up the food chain didn't like it so it wasn't integrated into the system. I forgot the reason.

I’ve been in both systems, at this point I really don’t care by check in or seniority. Both have their pros and cons. |

File an FCR.
They will inform the supervisor and forward the gate agent's statement to you if you ask for a reply. |

Is an FCR appropriate or call the pass bureau, union, CPO? The issue with having a higher priority sometimes is there may only be main cabin available when the GA starts to clear the list and all of the premium seats are sold. As boarding gets closer to being done, those premium seats are dropped if the PAX is a no show. As a non rev once you board that airplane you give up all rights for a upgrade and since you are already cleared and probably on the airplane, the lower priority non rev will get those seats. Now if you and a S3C were cleared at the same time, that is not right. Fill out the survey and they will go and look to see when everyone was actually cleared. |

Also remember comfort plus is a separate requested upgrade that you have to put in for.
I don't remember exactly but 1st class when you request the upgrade is automatic. Comfort plus you must check the Box that you'll take a middle seat also . Something like that but I know it's another step. |

In the almost 10 years I’ve held pass privileges on Delta, I’ve never sat in economy and I’m not mainline. |
Question. I have a deadhead back to base at the end of my trip. Can i deviate from scheduled DH, spend an extra week on vacation and then use that space positive DH for my flight home? In otherwords, can i delay my DH several days? Are there any rules about this?

However, (off topic) if you're a commuter and you need to double commute home, and you know the second leg is full and the JS is already booked, you can non-rev or JS the first leg and DDH the second. It just takes a call to or chat with Crew Accommodations. |

What??? FOM says there must be a seat available. The only caveat is that if Icrew won’t let you book a positive space seat but Travelnet show availability, you can call for assistance.
That's correct. But what I meant by "full" is there's some DL employee listed S2 with a hire date of 1939 or so and there are 3 seats available and you're the 6th on the list. But what you said is correct. I should have been more clear. |
Good luck....

Is an FCR appropriate or call the pass bureau, union, CPO? I really don't have any advice as to who will give you anything more than lip service but I would lose the word "complain" from your message. I would state something more along the lines of "I wish to bring this violation of our company policy to your attention..." "Complain" is a gate agent word attached to anyone who disagrees with them and makes you sound frivolous from the start. It seems like you have a legit issue and ought approach it as such. Good luck and let us know what haps. |
Two days ago, I was positive space with requests for any EC seat. Once again, S 3 given window EC, I was in Main 1. Several EC seats open. I believe it's faster for them to do it that way and hope/don't care what happens. This is SOP at my city. Happens too often.
I've written it up in the past. |

When that JS is occupied by a regional pilot or OAL, while you’re the only pilot in the 320 JS it’s not cool. AA guys get the option by the Agent “do you want the seat or the JS”. I’m sure most of us, will get the JS if we know other NonRevs will get on.

I get the jumpseat v nonrev angst but I won’t pander to it. The lack of stress I have from “owning” the jumpseat listing far outweighs not sitting in a middle seat while junior/OALs get first or C+. It’s the price of doing business as a commuter. I need to minimize stress as a commuter, not add it. And I even own my own safety vest that *gasp* I paid for myself!

You’re trying to play both ends. List as a non rev then and cancel your JS listing.
There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to "dual list" under today's tech when the old paper/computer system allowed it. |

Then it fills up for whatever reason and by the time you realize it you're inside the cutoff and there goes the OAL pilot down the jetbridge in your place.

Funny you should say this, years ago when our jumpseat listing started showing up on the non rev list the stated reason was that when the computer got to you on the list you could take a seat or the jumpseat. They actually said that it would run through seat, cockpit jumpseat then FA jumpseat if available without you having to do a thing. That never panned out and we have the system that we have today.
We should be able to checkin with the JS PNR. This would be also good for the agents, they won’t have to deal with us checking in or asking to list us as non-rev. |

You can't check in yourself for a jumpseat because you have to be verified. Listing for a nonrev you can do yourself until within cutoff anyway.

Reserve the JS, use that PNR for check in as S2/S3. There’s a seat, you take it, if not JS issued automatically. Agent calls you and verify CASS picture and gives you P1/P2. If you want to volunteer for JS or not enough seats, you can go before they are clearing NonRev pax and talk to the agent. |
