I do not agree that he is my boss or any such context. He is my boss as much as he is the dispatcher's boss or the gate agent's boss.

This whole post started when people got their panties in a wad that some management guy was flying in the left seat because he didn't deserve it or earned it or too junior to be qualified, yada yada. The point i am making is that, while the company does give captains a lot of leeway as the PIC of the flight, outside the cockpit of the flights you are assigned to fly, the title is highly symbolic. It doesn't carry any true authority and trying to stand on your soapbox that so and so hasn't earned it is lunacy.

Nah, I’m pretty sure you’re point was to let every one know that the captain is not a god and that you don’t listen to authority or use respectful titles when addressing people because you feel no one is above others in any situation.

That’s what I read in your rants.

The fact that you guys care so much about a stupid title is just blowing my mind.

I dont. And i cant believe anybody cares that much about what other pepl think about what an adversarial management does.

In my mind it says a lot more about the individual seeking the title and the organization that bestowed the award.

Management is free to do what they want. We have decades of lessons in that behavioral norm.

Because i have no employment authority im not any other pilots boss. Its not my job. During operation of a flight i am the other pilots and FAs proximate supervisor.

And as i once informed an operational subordinate employee....'look, if you keep it up i cant threaten your job. Thats not my job. But....i will send you to see someone whos job it IS to threaten your job.

Worked wonders. I think im gona get a new ballcap...that says 'not the boss.....but i do have his number'.

Does it hurt your sensitive feelings that I don't call Captains sir? Maybe you should court martial me lol.

So do RJ captains garner the same respect and authority outside the flight deck? As a former LCA and RJ captain, now subordinate international FO, RESPECT MY AUTHORITEEEEE!

You guys are too much. May we get back to our regularly scheduled programming now? PLEASE?!

It's amazing how many of many of you feel slighted that their FOs don't call them sir. Lol. Newsflash, you aren't in the military anymore. I'll refer to you as the captain when talking to anyone about you and Bob when talking to you. If you have a problem with it, you can file your complaint in the same place where you put last flight's paperwork.

Im guessing nobody has an issue with that. Most As i think are secure in their role onboard so thats fine.

I thought this was an education on regulatory and reading comprehension....but i understand from your last comment the base issue is one of emotional 'feelings'. Lol.

you seem like a reasonable person...so im gonna guess you daddy did love you...but you are still po'd he made you call him 'sir'? :)

Had a friend trying to get hired by Delta. So I attended a base meeting where the muckety-mucks we gonna be in attendance. I opened the conversation with, "So, Ed and Jim, how can you help a brother out?"

I mean, aren't they employees of delta .....just like me? Put their pants on, one leg at a time ....just like me .....right? why do I need to show any respect?

Why "thank" a service member?....he's just doing his job. It galls the sh** outta me that we encourage "service members " to board first....what makes them special? Ditto for the police.......heck, my kids even call me by my first name.....after all it is my name....am I right? Screw respect....we are all members of the human race....same, same

I really don't give a flip.....but it is amusing that some(one) here seems to be "eat up with" the concept of "respect" and proclaiming their equality.

You seem to be confusing showing respect with using the word "sir." I know this may sound shocking to you, but I can support the military AND not call someone sir.

But this is all "whataboutism" nonsense. I'm just not going to call you Captain Rogers, ESPECIALLY not while walking in the lounge. When I talk to fleet captains, I use their first name. They insist on it anyways. No, I do not call them "sir" or do I ask permission to enter their office nor do I stand at attention. This is a company, not the military. You know what Jim signs his emails as? Jim.
