Marriage is a two way partnership that takes lots of communication and planning. I start coordinating schedules with my wife the first week of the month before bidding. I set realistic expectations based on seniority and may even create a few windows of opportunity for GS. On some occasions it takes two months of planning to work within 100/672. It’s so much easier bidding around known events than swapping out of a mistake. We share responsibility for the bid results, which can preempt an argument over a schedule conflict.
As an added bonus, when she has input to the initial award, it’s much easier to say “What do you think about missing dinner with the neighbors on Friday for a 4 day GS?” |

We have several shared calendars. I don't nearly work 100/672 but I do have her put her known work events and personal events on her calendar so I can bid around it.

I'm rarely in that situation either, but sometimes stacking up trips at the end of the month, then beginning of the following month creates an issue. It's amazing how much you can condense your schedule with the daily average exceeding 7 hours.
Pre-bid - “you’re going to be home for Halloween right?” Me - “I won’t know for sure until Nov schedule is out.” wide out - “Hey, looks like I’m home Halloween!” Her - “That’s great, but I really need you home on the 5th.” “Umm. I’m not going to be home on 5th…” Schedules published - “Hey, I could be home in 5th by WSing this 5 day on 30th, but then I won’t be home for Halloween.” Her - “5th is more important do it”. Successfully WS and drop. 10 minutes ago - “So on Halloween…”. Me “I’m not home on Halloween.” |

Wow, my wife has absolutely zero SA or care about my schedule. She just goes along with the flow. Doesn’t really know the difference between an FO and a captain. I flew the same jet in the military for 20 years, she couldn’t pick it out of a line-up of a balloon, a helicopter, and an airplane. Just never cared one way or the other. Been married 20 years…

According to my wife, there are wives on the Widget Spouse FB page that read the contract and know RR rules....one was asking if her hubby was due a PB day for getting extended into next calendar day from international trip.

Thar sounds absolutely miserable...my SO barely knows the difference between a Captain and FO (just knows I make more money now but my schedule is worse 😂. ).

I disagree. My wife is a true partner and we work the angles together. I’ve helped her with some aspects of her job before too and give her advice. Neither of us is overbearing. It’s nice to have someone to ping ideas off. Though, she still has no clue where I am when I am gone which is funny.
