So you’re saying we could replace the 75 with the Honeybadger II? Load it full of people, anvils, and boat anchors, takeoff from Lima with derate numbers and climb straight to FL410 and cruise home at .85M. Take my money now!!

It does not sound like that to the accountants who actually have to buy the aircraft never mind, the 321xlr, is a current type who they have a reserve for and can rotate them through the rest of the operation as need.

I’m curious of everyone’s thoughts on potential flying from this deal...

Will there be flying to South America from other bases in the future? LAX/SEA/SLC to São Paulo, Santiago, Lima, Buenos Aires, Bogota...?

Or will it just be more flights from bases where we already do some of this like ATL/JFK/DTW?

What aircraft would serves those routes best? 330/767/321NEO?

I bet even Ed Bastian doesn't have the answers to your questions in his head yet!

Those are great questions. Looking at their route map, the main cities are LIM, SCL, EZE and GRU. Other than LIM, we would be overflying most of the destinations on the way to a hub. It would be like flying from LAX to DFW with a connection in ATL. The primary change will be moving flights from MIA to ATL.

That argument still goes out the window when someone says the 787 itself is the only alternative... since it has those same engines but isn't optimized for the shorter segments. It also means that engines of THAT technology level can be made. The big argument is "we can't build engines that large." Probably not as difficult to design a similar engine to the 787 at a lower thrust output than a GTF that we "can't build large enough."

New DAL hub in Santiago or possibly Lima depending on politics. Company will attempt to get provisions in the next PWA to accommodate a crew base there rather than have to deadhead crews there on their own. Possibility it could be A220 with an additional 220 order.

Just like we have a DAL hub in LHR, CDG and AMS? Very funny.

Must be nice having a competent management team not run by an alcoholic?
