I would like some insight from those who understand the nuances of bounces for landing currency.
I will lose currency the first week of Dec and won't be flying until the first of that month at the earliest. I read the pertinent FOM section so I understand the difference between going before vs. after my due date. When they eventually ask me in icrew for available dates, do they only care about my days off? I assume the pay is training pay but does one get payback days? Would it behoove me to bid a trip or reserve days during the first week or days off? Are there any other strategies anyone can offer?
Thank you in advance!

I went a couple months ago. I just put my “availability” over the top of trips I already had scheduled. Gave a courtesy call to the training scheduler on the day I expired. Got a notification 15 min later that my sim was scheduled, looked in icrew and travel was on the first day I put in as available. Easy peasy. Don’t have my time card handy at the moment, so I won’t guess at the pay aspect.

Not always. Most captains I fly with do their best to get takeoffs/landings to the guys who need them the most, but it doesn't always work out. I bid reserve from fall to spring and pretty much expect to go to bounces twice. I've actually had a line the last 3 months and still going to bounces in a week or so.

On the big WB fleets there are usually only 1-2 landings per pilot, per month if you have a normal line. Last 2 trips I’ve flown (72 hours worth) there was IOE... zero landings available. Throw in vacation and a captain that doesn’t fairly distribute landings.... landing school.
It happens all the time. Especially if someone is on reserve.
