One last time. The company made no offer on sections of financial importance.
At any rate - assuming vacation has been discussed and the current improvement in value is $28M for 14,500 pilots, that's a touch under $1950 per pilot. If we assume the average pilot makes 180 an hour, that comes out to an offer of a little over 2 vacation days (9.5ish hours) per pilot. This assumes no improvements in tentatively agreed upon sections, 6, 15, 18, 19, 20, and 21. This also assumes no improvement offers on sections 5, 8, 13, 16, 22, and 24 which were being discussed in October. Your example of selling a nice car is appropriate. I don't know you but I'd imagine you were a little insulted for having your time wasted, even if it was just a text message. I get why you're insulted by ALPA - I am too, but I think Delta's offer is a little more insulting. |

Weren't both of these provisions written in with language saying either side could pull them down at any time for any reason? IANAL, but how is it bad faith to exercise an agreed upon provision in a contract? Does it reek of taking your ball and walking off the playground? Sure, but maturity has no place in contractual language, only the specific language with signatures at the bottom.

We've got them right where we want them according to Jerry. |
If the company wants to keep this up while intending on running a redline operation book ended on good will from the pilots... a pastor I knew used to say “bless you and your ministry.”

The union needs to release our table position and costing now before mediation locks things down. That will allow informed pilots to make a decision if our union positions are reasonable as a base for negotiations. I once sold a speciality car that had a very defined value around 28,000. I asked 28,500 as mine was exceptional. The first buyer showed up and offered 19,000. I said no thanks goodbye. He said aren’t you going to make a counter offer. I said not to 19,000. He said everyone makes a counter. I said Ok, 29,000. He said that’s ridiculous you’re asking 28,500. I said no more ridiculous than you offering 19,000. |

More than what is being spent on stock buybacks. That’s how much.
I think this just became my new baseline for contract improvements! Any company that spends profits (or borrows $$$ for Zeus's sake!) just to purchase company stock is out of ideas. Or wants to inflate stock options that are typically reserved for the upper echelons of management compensation. Or both. I'm not even unhappy with our current contract. That tag hit a nerve though. I'm going to steal that quote and hold onto it for the next couple of negotiating years. |
Do you own an Apple or Microsoft product? Why don't you Google "Apple cash hoard" and perhaps "Apple stock buybacks" (or substitute Microsoft for either) and get back to me as to how Delta is uniquely evil in this realm. I think stock buybacks are useless, but Delta is far from an outlier.

We've got them right where we want them according to Jerry. Is it bad faith to pull down a program in a contractually compliant fashion, especially when the VBs were past the trial period anyways? And it certainly can’t be anymore bad faith than numerous scope and scheduling violations over the course of the current PWA...

Is it bad faith to shut something down within the agreed upon parameters? This is just pessimistic to be pessimistic.
I don’t think their track record on good faith is any more rosy than the Union’s... |
