People just don't want to admit to themselves that they (and their way of life) are the problem. It's human nature.

Burning coal, trashing the environment, eating meat and dairy, funding wars, buying iPhones, wearing designer clothes made in sweatshops, etc is a lot easier if you lie to yourself and tell yourself that you aren't hurting anyone.

Except that it isn't proven that it is a problem. The effect of man's activity on the atmosphere is still unknown, unquantifiable, and even if it is significant it is also not well understood.

That's not the problem. I don't know anyone who will tell you that polluting less is a bad thing. But that's not the agenda.

The agenda is about control and forcing you to change your lifestyle and society at large based on what some people think might could potentially be happening but don't know for sure. Demanding that entire economy shift it's fundamentals based on some ivory tower theories in their intellectual infancy is absurd.

Now if it were proven beyond any doubt that man was not only contributing to climate change significantly and that the climate change was detrimental somehow, then yeah I might could see some serious adult discussion about it. But right now neither points have been proven.

In short, radical environmentalism is being used as a vehicle for progressive/socialism. And what is sad is that supposed critically thinking adults buy into it.
