My guess is that Delta is trying to get ahead of possible legislation against them in Congress. Try and fix it your way or have regulations stuffed down your throat by Washington. It may happen anyway depending on how elections go later this year.

If politicians, actors, whoever want to scream and cry about climate change and the CO2 emissions from planes, they should be the first ones to stop flying them, but that never happens. Here’s one recent example:

Cant give pilots that money because they already spent it on multiyear carbon offset program, when we get it anyway Delta cant help the environment because - pilots and their greed.

I’m starting to think the coronavirus will take care of that pesky carbon footprint all by itself.... I hope I’m wrong....

One would hope it doesn’t truly spiral out of control. It’s too early to tell, and the Chinese government has yet to earn anyone’s trust when it comes to the data they release, but if the coronavirus equaled the 1918 Spanish flu in mortality rates and contagious nature, then it could kill upwards of 50 million in China alone (1918 flu killed ~65 million out of a world population of 1.8 billion). That’s insane.
