Chief Pilot Bos position posting

Well I guess the BOS base is taking one step closer to being a reality. Chief Pilot BOS job posting is on skynet as we speak.

Somewhere, Dave Bushy is laughing..

Skynet has become self-aware

hockeypilot44 02-29-2020 04:56 AM

If they open Boston, it will be the first new pilot base opened in how long? Over 20 years? I wonder if it will lead to any other new bases?

Who would staff NYC then?

Boston rhymes with Austin. All Airbus all day. What the heck co-base it with SAT.

Rcordeiro122592 02-29-2020 08:40 AM

Any idea what equipment will be in BOS? I can see the 320, maybe 220 or a small 767, 330 presence.

BS has said it will be a 320 base.

Has also said ER is too seasonal to support full time base in BOS.

I wouldn't be suprised to see it as a 330 base at some point.

In the olden days it was a 727, 75-76 base with lots of Florida.

We’re always going out to play in the “garden.”

Ya' Great base. Loved the trips, BOS/CVG/ LAX, 24 hr. layover LAX/ATL/ BOS- 767-200. Easy-peasy. Peppa Pig is cool. I'm partial to Hello Kitty. I'm not fast enough for the little Latina with the bangs.

Posted in administration section on the flight ops pg:

”...The Chief Pilot position in BOS reports directly to the Regional Director – New York and will begin with a 4-6 month training tour in the New York Chief Pilot Office commencing at the beginning of the May bid month...”

DWC in SLC 07-31-2022 06:29 AM

So, this thread has gone a bit stale. I know covid put a hold on things but has there been any more word on the Boston Base opening?

Bucking Bar 07-31-2022 06:33 AM

They are doing runs to see if opening BOS could possibly make the ATL 320 rotations worse. So far it has been impossible to make 320 rotations worse, so the base is on hold.

bugman61 07-31-2022 06:53 AM

They mentioned in of the the CR updates that new bases were being looked at but nothing anytime soon. BOS and a new fleet type someplace out west was discussed.

I think they will get there eventually. Once the airline stabilizes from a training perspective the same fundamentals that made BOS worth it are still there. I would think that they will be talking about it more concretely in 1-2 years.

Flownit 07-31-2022 06:58 AM

Maybe they’re waiting on virtual basing…

Excellent post!!

waldo135 07-31-2022 08:00 AM

My understanding is that they are working out ‘office space’ and will be ready very soon. It looked like this fall, but I will be shocked if it’s not be the end of next summer.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Miami base opens first.

I would be.

I would definitely like a MIA (or MCO for that matter) base but I would be shocked if the next base we open isn’t BOS.

just looking at the two cities FLL/MIA can probably justify a base but BOS definitely has more departures, especially to non hub airports.

Really? Is that a Rumor?

Jaxs170 07-31-2022 10:37 AM

1Q 2023 is what we are hearing

320 for sure
330 possibly in the running as well

All depending on training capabilities

BOS definitely needs a 330 base more than SLC. There were 5 of them in BOS one day last week

JSDL 07-31-2022 10:56 AM

How do you all see a BOS 320/330 base shaking up the seniority in the other bases? NY becomes ridiculously Jr in both seats? How about the other bases?

my guess is BOS would be our second most junior base, with most BOS based pilots bidding in from NY.

if my seniority were similar I would rather commute to BOS than NY and I’m sure others feel similarly, even though BOS is a farther flight

Adding a couple 320 bases in MCO, MIA/FLL, or AUS/SAT would be wise on the company’s part for pilot recruitment. Most highly qualified applicants have their pick of any major airline right now. Basing becomes the #1 deciding factor for most of them.

Yes. We have terrible bases.

PilotBases 07-31-2022 11:19 AM

Problem with a lot of stations such as BOS, FL, MIA is there is such a mix of types. Go to MIA and it’s a few 737s, a 321 and a 757. Network would have to commit to one major type there, and I think they like the flexibility.

The lack of fleet flexibility through CVG is supposedly why they closed that base, so your logic checks.

Wolf424 07-31-2022 11:58 AM

Expect BOS to open around the same time as the “large WB bid” I keep hearing about

Just depends on where you're from. To me, UAL and AAL have terrible bases.

So "soon"...right? :D

PilotBases 07-31-2022 12:31 PM

I think we have great bases, two in the “Midwest” with relatively decent costs of living. Seattle which has been booming since we opened it. Atlanta another city with major growth, plus proximity to Florida. United has nothing in or near Florida, plus more high CoL east coast (NYC and DC) as well as two high CoL west coast (SFO, LAX).

Too bad you missed BOS, DFW, IAH, MIA, MSY, ORD, PDX.

My CPO mole shared that the first BOS Chief has been identified and is currently shadowing the NYC CPO to learn the ropes.

I hope if that is true, it’s the new NYC CPO, and wasn’t the disaster of the last one.

Edit: Regional Director.

marcal 08-01-2022 04:33 AM

I’m hoping it’s not soon bc BOS is a great layover and lots of that will go away with a base. From a seniority standpoint though it would be good to have the New Englanders leave NYC.
