I think he was the first one to install a 75mm in a B-25, lost a couple of kts. every time it fired.

Pilot X used to publish his satirical “follies” on a website for free and now has published a book. Hilarious.

If you end up enjoying Frozen in Time (which I certainly did) then also check out "Lost in Shangri La". It's another true story of a downed WW2 plane and the rescue mission. This one's in remote Pacific jungle and involves isolated cannibals, army nurses, and highly modified aircraft to perform the rescue. Couldn't put it down and surprised it hasn't been made into a movie yet (was only written a few years ago)

I actually did read that book years ago...great book. Is he the same author as Frozen in Time?

Definitely agree on Call Sign CAOS. Gen. Jim Mattis is super. Good read, sage advice.
Also, North Star Over my Left Shoulder by Bob Buck. Enjoyable read and all sorts of issues and adventures of a guy who started on the DC-2 and DC-3 and finished his career on the 747. Was a TWA pilot. Met Charles Lindbergh. Chief Pilot. You can figure out his navigating methodology flying to Europe.

"Days of Rage" - Bryan Burrough
Did you know there were over 1900 bombings in the US in 1972 alone?
Weathermen, black panthers, anarchists, Puerto Rican separatists, a shot up Congress, robbing banks.....much as I personally dislike all of this "unauthorized shopping" and real world application of "the broken window fallacy", we've been here before, and not that long ago.
Highly relevant. Arguably some of the same actors who failed then are influencing current events.
Or just read this review... it's fascinating stuff.
