Mandatory two week quarantine for NY to FL
Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is issuing an executive order to require passengers flying from NY/NJ to Florida to endure a TWO WEEK quarantine!! We may as well cancel all future NY-FL service. All flights will be empty, everyone will be driving now and all truckstop motels in SC will be packed.
No idea how this will impact commuters. |

A little late....
Friday and Saturday, MCO and RSW were hopping and business as usual. Florida is going to kill A LOT of old people. |
The Florida airports are packed. TSA checkpoints working at half capacity and shoulder to shoulder lines out the door. It's a joke.
|
If it’s”self quarantine “ it’s worthless. No one, especially old farts, pays any attention to these things.
”Social distancing” too vague. How about “stay home, and grocery shop once a week, max”? Now...fining people for not wearing masks in public.....Did wonders in SAN 1917. .... then failed in November when the public refused to do it anymore. |

Odd that we are somehow exempt from this. It's like we can't transmit the disease or something.
|
Well as far as I can tell, all quarantines are self quarantines. I haven't seen anyone standing g with rifles enforcing people stay in their homes...makes sense though since 90% of my 320 trips are NYC to Florida! I seriously recommend just shutting NYC completely down for 2 weeks and then reassessing. The threat to the crews is real. The cleanliness of the aircraft is dubious at best, at least on the flight deck. Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm definitely not a virologist...although I play one on TV, but wouldnt common sense just dictate to distance yourself from arguably the newest hot spot on the entire planet? Uber or taxi back and forth to crash pad, or hotel, just exposes us each infinitely to potential exposure. It just seems that the most likely conduit for national contamination is through airline travel, unless rail service has picked up or people are all the sudden flocking to greyhound.
|
Only thing I see happening is flights canceling.. JFK/LGA/TPA :(
|
Just re-route them through DTW. Problem solved. 😁

The order does not apply to those employed by "airlines, or those performing military, emergency, or health response." We must be immune. |

My understanding is that the travel ban is for airline travel only. If you’re driving from NYC to FL, you’re totally legal. This is looking more and more like mass panic and hysteria. “Pneumonia is a old man’s friend”, as is “Open the window and let pneumonia in” for a reason. No one lives forever. |

Ok serious question. Regardless of the fact we are "essential," for those of us that live in Florida how can we comply with the order to quarantine for 14 days "EVERY" time we come back from NYC? Its one thing to be essential to go to work, but I will be in perpetual quarantine from my family and in my case my home doesn't have a valid place to quarantine, so do I go live in a hotel for however many months? I don't see how we can comply with the law and fly into and out of NYC/

Otherwise National Guard has all incoming passengers fill out a form with their quarantine information. |

Probably too political, but here goes:
Where do states get off restarting the free movement of US citizens between states? Where do they derive that authority? Do they have statutory emergency powers that allows them to do this? I’m genuinely curious. For example: Can Rhode Island prohibit the entry of New Mexicans during flu season now? Or force a quarantine for, I don’t know, a year? This is just nuts. |

Yesterday I flew JFK to JAX and passengers were forced to sign a questionnaire before leaving the plane, and when we de-planed they sent everyone to a separate part of the airport to turn it in and be questioned. They even had cops directing people on where to go.
I got off the same aircraft, headed to the same location, but in my uniform... And a cop said "You can use the normal exit!" We live in a bizarro world. |

NYC is a choice. Commuting is a choice. Out of seniority upgrade is a choice. Being healthy enough to go to work is a choice.

Is it nap time? In my former life any announcement with “mop” in it meant go to your stateroom and take a 2-hour nap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Latest memo has them taking temps for people coming into GO, OCC, Reservations centers.
Nothing for people work actually work at the airport. How strange. |

Somewhere else I read 488 pilots with COVID-19, anybody else hear that?
