A330 Gouge/ Study Guide or Input
Got MD'ed to A330B. Have never flown Airbus. Any suggested study guides, tips, pointers, suggestions, etc for a new guy on the plane? Coming from Boeing.
Looked at the material on Deltanet. Will go through what is there. Didn't see any flows guides. Are there suggested flows?
I have heard the A320 training group is very straight forward and gentleman-like. How would you describe the A330 training program, instructors, etc?

Disclaimer: not an Airbus driver, but thought I might be before the nonsense started. Flows are in the Flight Crew Training Manual: DeltaNet > A330 > Manuals > Ops & Performance > FCTM > Section 1.3.

And remember the key to Airbus training: whatever you flew before... this isn’t it. So stop talking about it.
The other key, it’s what happens when a committee of computers is given wings.
As to the 330...

Did 330 IQ early this year as my first Airbus. (Just got kicked off so back to Boeing for me). Overall it’s a decent program with a lot of good people, although there’s a little too much “student teach thyself” for my taste. The FMS is the biggest adjustment. Some stuff is awesome, some seems ridiculous but you just have to embrace it. Best line I got from an instructor was “if it makes sense it’s German, if it’s ridiculous it’s French.” Hope you get some reps on it though once you get to the line. Hard for all the new Airbus stuff to sink in when you only fly once every other month. Cheers and good luck.

I appreciate! Found it when lurking in the 320 training material but not the 330. Will look there now. Funny how they move stuff around from plane to plane.

watch the ebrief videos. Before they’re erased.

Sounds like some sage advice. How do you like flying the plane and the trips?
Will read through this doc. Thanks

Mainly FMS stuff and learning to shift your logic from a “TO” perspective to a “FROM” perspective. That and all the 900 stuff. No autopilot with single engine when the flaps are out and tons of weird crosswind stuff. Also running the ECAM and then a full QRH basically doubles the amount of time spent on abnormals if you came from a QRH or electronic checklist aircraft.

The weirdest thing I had to get used to, going from 7ER B to 320 A was that when you get to TOD, even if you’ve changed the altitude in the “window”, it won’t start down until you push the alt knob, but if you’re in heading mode and do a direct to in the FMS, it’ll immediately start “NAVing” to the fix you DIR TO’d. In the Boeing, you have to hit NAV or LNAV, to go there, and it’ll start down on its own, if you’ve told it it’s ok to do so.

The A330 is/was my first Airbus product. The two biggest “hang ups” for me were the FMS and all the different “colors.”
The FMS differences start with programming it. Boeing leads you thru the preflight programming. Airbus does not. You just have to learn all places to input data. Airbus does not have an “execute” button. It just takes getting used to.
Colors. Learn what each color means as in blue (armed) etc. This will be a big help.
I will say this......if I can do it........any one can!!!
Oh. And don’t hesitate to use the speed brakes if needed!
