A 1:1 ratio. Surprising it went that deep, in a way. But as others have noted already, some folks have found a steady way to pay the bills, and it's not worth it yet to commute to NY.

Hope the next AE brings back even more though.

I wonder if the company has noticed how deep it went (so to speak)...as in, perhaps their pool of 1700+ eager, readily available pilots isn’t quite as deep as they think. Hopefully we’ll be hiring sooner rather than later.

Dunno. They made a point in their weekly update today to note that more than 90% of the 418 returned were in the top 500 affected pilots. So apparently in order to get the last 10% they had to go an additional order of magnitude of the whole group. The one affected pilot I know bypassed because he didn't want to commute to NY, especially being almost the plug... In other words, the vast majority of the bypasses would have been super junior in seat. Covering 3 NY airports. No thanks, I'll wait.

Not sure what broader conclusions can be drawn, except they did return 18 more pilots than they originally advertised. Maybe things are looking better. We can all hope.

I think a big reason there is such a high bypass rate on this AE is because of the upcoming May/June AE and BS mentioning this upcoming bid will likely be much larger and also now it seems there may be a PSP 3.0 keeping everyone on full pay till end of September.

There is also already rumors floating that PB has mentioned gearing up Pilot Selection by the end of this year to potentially start interviewing again.

supposedly a lot on Mil orders. Shocked 90% came from the top 500 when they have the advantage to ride the pay and sit out the longest since it will take a while to go to the bottom then back up again. My class won't have the liberty to bypass even if we want too, but I'm ok with that. I'm ready to get back to flying, in 2 weeks it will be a full year for me so I'm fine and come to terms I will be commuting to NYC for a while until we hire. On the bright side unless we put 717 back in NYC, I should be able to get 320 or 220

Napkin math says 380 ish pilots out of the top 500 returned. They had to dig down to 832 (332 more) to get the remaining 38 pilots. That is close to a 90% bypass rate for junior in NYC.

The conclusion to be drawn is that junior in NYC is less desirable than any other employment available to a college graduate, even if they love flying.

I would imagine the idea behind many of the senior bidders getting in on this bid knowing another bid is on the horizon may reduce amount of time in NYC. Assuming May/June bid you there is a chance to only be in an awarded category from this bid 2-4 months before moving out of NYC.
