stayed there a couple nights ago. $77 out the door booked through the website with no codes. Clean and comfortable....did smell the MJ in the hall though but then again that made me feel like I was at a regular layover

It appears like I may have to eat a little crow from my last post. Looks like the Holiday Inn and the Sonesta are done effective immediately. Kudos to Delta for a rapid response. (Although the union email does point out they’ve had safety concerns for years and been ignored up to this point).

Delta has ordered 10,000 surplus body armor vests from the US Army. Virginia Ave layovers will resume next month after they are delivered.

Smart. They’ve read the DZ reparations thread and figured they could throw more fuel on that fire by letting us figure out who gets a vest.

Rapid response? There have been violent crimes every few months near our hotels since I have been here. Delta has always done the bare minimum. Getting the Holiday Inn to lock the hotel at night, increasing Police patrols, and then finally putting a cop in the parking lot. None of those actually make us safer, they just decrease the time it takes for a first responder to get to the scene AFTER a crew member has been attacked/stabbed/shot.

Exactly.

After checking in to the hotel some years ago, I found out that the front desk had been robbed twice in the preceeding week or two.

And then there is the gas station somewhat near the ruby Tuesday that, from what I have been told, is robbed on a fairly regular basis.

In the company's defense, has any employee actually been harmed transiting the Virginia Ave area and the hotels? Heard rumors of muggings over the decades, but that's it.

Flight operations personnel travel all over the country and the world into places that look ok, but really aren't. (BWI Inner Harbor comes to mind). I like to think of Virginia Ave. hotel space as a training ground for what the rest of your career is going to be like: mostly safe layovers, but the onus not to be stupid or to wear rose colored glasses on the reality of where you are is 100% on you.

To wit: jogging through the College Park area is probably not the smartest thing to do. Plenty have though. Maybe AOK for the fleet of foot.

Anyone ever refused a Virginia Ave hotel and booked their own room on their own dime? (No, you shouldn't have to) That would be a rational response to a known threat.

Will they ship them with CJOs to new hire homes? Need to have them when they first report.

The police are in that Racetrac parking lot almost 24/7 now.
