I put nothing past the socialists that are running the show right now. Our demographic is square in their crosshairs. I have been asking this same question for years because it has been obvious to me that at some point the Pocahontas/Squad/Bernie Bros were going to get a toe hold in the .gov and start coming after us to pay for their wealth redistribution fantasies. The first shot is going to give you the opportunity to fund a woefully mismanaged Social Security plan (based on ALL your earnings) of which you will be deemed too well off to reap any benefit when you retire. Your money stolen, and you have no recourse or recompense.

You don't 'need' that much money
If you've never read it, try Atlas Shrugged. You can skip about 300 pages or so when John Galt goes into his soliloquy, but she knew what is coming.

If past is prologue....they changed( they being republicans/conservatives?????) the ROTH about a year and a half ago. It is not generational skipping as it was. That was 1 of the three big reasons I opted for the ROTH even though my marginal bracket was at the top. I feel that seismic shift was just the beginning. I feel the current administration will further that agenda due to philosophy or sheer need. YMMV

One question. The sentence I highlighted. It might be hard for you to put yourself in the mode for this, but if you were there right now, where would you put money to reduce risk and get any kind of return? I'm just curious because I really don't think there is any place at the moment other than perhaps high dividend yielding stocks. Bonds suck... wwyd?
I have been into Reality Inc (O) for over 10 years. REIT with a current dividend yield of over 4%. They dipped with the market as a whole around 08 and last year but seem to rebound nicely. Very stable low excitement stock. They took a little hit from Covid due to the movie theater sector getting whacked but it has been coming up very steadily and I did plow a bunch of coin in at an opportune time last year. ****
Oh yeah - they pay dividends monthly.
With that said I am pretty well diversified.
**** Note - I am a pilot and have naturally made my share of ill timed trades over the years, but this one has been a winner.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them change the rules and make them taxable. It will start with a net worth test and go from there.
