“1,241 total bids not filled 133 unfilled CAPTAIN bids in LAX, SFO, DCA, EWR. 170 unfilled 777/787 FO in SFO, DCA, EWR 2 year Captains in DEN (used to be 2 years just to get FO in Denver) Another bid supposed to be out in January or February. New hires to likely be awarded 787/777 FO in new hire training. Everyone with 500 hours on property and off probation can hold Captain.” Not saying things are not good here at DL by any stretch but WOW! if we are supposed to hire 4,000 pilots in the next 2-3 years I think it might only be a matter of time before crazy things like this start happening here. crazy world Ya man, combined with FDX recent bid, it's a nutty world right now. For UAL, expensive cost of living bases, combined with their reserve rules are likely what's driving the WB FO spots being left open. Either way, good for our UAL friends! |

This thread started with unfilled CA vacancies on a November bid. Then another bid in Dec, followed by Jan/Feb. I wonder what it's like where you have multiple seat bids throughout the year?

I bet their junior FOs wouldn’t have the audacity to call in fatigued for an ATL-JAX trip either!

I hope this was snarky humor. Hard to tell in text format.
Capt had just driven to work to start his 4 day IA. FO was on day 3 of 4, had already flown one leg (Midwest to West Coast), pushed, gate returned, push again, flew Transcon West Coast to ATL, then had the audacity to throw in the towel before the ATL-JAX leg which was now going to land after midnight.....the nerve! |

He was alluding to the DL ATL ER Capitan that blasted his FO for calling out fatigued mid rotation last week.

May I ask what approx. DOH hire applies wide body captain (real wide body like 787/777)? Just curious if the vacant NB captain bids correlate in any fashion to juniority on the WB side of the house.
Over here, the lamest wide body trip beats typical domestic. So if you are the recipient of what's handed out to reserves, the QOL is pretty decent once you are out flying. Bottom line is that a junior wide body pilot is not living in misery once flying assignments are made. I am an Aug 97 hire on the legacy UA side (which is about Jan 2001 hire on the legacy CAL side, ISL fun). I can hold 777 and 787 Cap with about 10 folks junior to me in each seat in SFO. I can hold 777 Cap in EWR with about 10 junior to me, cant hold 787 there. Unfortunately, I am about 1800 away from holding 787 Cap in ORD (where I live), so that will be awhile. Hopefully the 787 delivery nightmare gets resolved soon and the movement on that fleet can resume to cover both growth and retirements rather than just retirements. Currently I am a 756 Cap sitting at about 60% base seniority among the ORD 756 Captains. |
