I took mine to a local luggage repair shop and paid to have a longer handle installed, gave me about 3 more inches which made a world of difference for someone like me who is taller.

What location did you get the bag serviced at and (ballpark) what did it cost for the extension?

I find the same with some older captains, either way, the solution is to put them near a pillar while waiting for the van.

Andare Trip Report
Pros
-The storage volume was impressive. -The lighter weight was appreciated when I had to reach back a row to grab it out of the overhead bin. -The lack of sharp metal edges made for a much calmer experience loading and unloading over a plastic bumper. -Convenient arrangement of compartments for separating items. Cons -I missed the hanging speed of the J hook in the transitions. On/Off bus, Jetway to Airplane and back, etc. -Suitcase can't be used as a self defense weapon if taken to training (VA Ave sarcasm) Undecided -The light feel of the handle caused me to be intentionally cautious when pulling the bag up curbs or stairs. It took a while to get used to the turning performance. On one occasion the inertia from my hanging backpack swung the Andare bag sideways. The extra 10 lbs and lower CG on the old LW bag would have kept the wheels on the ground. Now that all my travelling electronics (New Delta iPad, laptop and phone) charge via USB-C, I only need one charger, not 3 in the backpack and can shift two chargers into the suitcase. I think adjusting the weight ratio and loading denser items at the bottom of the suitcase will help the turning performance. |

Trip report on the Andare bag - I just did a four day (domestic) with it on the 737.
Solid bag, lightweight, and was able to fill it right up, with 4 days worth of clothes, some electronics, sneakers (white, new balance of course) and a heavy winter coat. It fit all in without a problem - I didn't have to expand the bag. Zippers are solid. Handle is a bit shorter than I like, I'm 6' - like the other person said, which results in the balance being a bit off for carrying my small flight bag. I never had the handle release while I was walking. Handle is fine - medium strength like I had said previous. Nothing about the bag seemed flimsy or like it was going to break soon. In the end, it's a solid bag, replacing my Costco 22" that was starting to need new wheels. At the $79 price point, it's an excellent bag. I took the leap and ordered the three bag set… I needed another roll aboard and I wanted to try a cooler bag. Like others have said, it seems like a solid roll aboard bag, and a fantastic value for the price point. It is close in height and width to my standard 22” LW bag, but it is about 2” thicker, it compares closely to the LW “suiter” model at 1/4 the price. I attached a leftover J hook from my first LW bag that met an early demise after being checked one too many times during my tenure with ACMI. The cooler bag is good quality. The tote bag is a good design and seems like good quality, but it is pretty big to use as a flight kit bag, but it works. I’ll take them out for a trip next week Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
The only negative I’ve noticed about the Andare is that it won’t fit sideways in overhead bins (at least those on a 737-900). Just found that out going down to training. I tried normal and wheels first with not success. It looked like it is just a skoch too wide. Didn’t have much time to fuss with it, though. Still a great bag for the money, IMO.

Like how the little pictures on the bin show you to rotate the suitcase on it's side so it's taking more space vertically and less space horizontally to fit more bags in.
