In other words, if there are 3 trips and you are the most senior pilot of 3 available reserves, they won’t look at the big picture and see that you will be needed and let you get your pick of the 3 trips. Instead they’ll cover 2 trips, and when they get to you you’re getting trip #3 even if you had preferenced the other 2 trips. Depending on the situation you may be better off just YS the trip you really want to jump to the front of the line.

I would assume that the same thing applies to SC start times. Or they’ll have so few pilots on SC they’ll just stick you where they need you regardless of your preferences.

This is not true. If you find they gave out a trip
You wanted to someone junior, you have to call and get it changed. I’ve had to do this a couple times with no grief on their end.

Good to know, as I’ve never had much good luck with any of that.

I think there are a lot of schedulers who don’t understand how it works, even before Covid, but especially after.

Does anyone know a good way to determine how many reserve lines will be awarded before the bid closes? I understand it’s a moving target, but the difference between 10% of required available and 100% is a big deal for QOL to folks that like reserve. Thanks

Pull some bid awards and count?

Figure out how many are bidding in the category and then subtract the RLL.# for the month to get a ball-park idea?

Basically I’m on the fence to keep bidding reserve and be one of 3 the whole month or just suck it up and bid a line. By “pulling bid awards” I don’t know what that means but it sounds like after the bid closes. I’d like to try and know before hand if I’m making sense

Look at the RLL for your category in the bid package.

^^^This is how you know^^^. ALPA’s “Navigating Summer Flying” also has a good discussion of this, and can step you through where to find the RLL for each category. BL: it’s in the bid package, on the far right column of the table with the ALV and whether there is an extra X day.

Hubcapped 08-09-2022 08:09 AM

What is RLL? What does it mean? Sorry to bother but 3 minutes here beats 69 minutes searching. Thank you in advance
