Referencing the earlier rabbit hole of YSing Short Call Only if Needed…ALL the time. I don’t want to be on short call, but if they plan to use me for it I sure as hell am going to tell them what time window I want. If you’re a commuter it’s a total chump move not to.

Is the SC window preference also an obligation on their part, or required compliance like the “If needed” trip preference?

Sounds like it 50/50 on whether it was legal or not.

It's technically possible that they pulled the trip coverage (TC) for the first trip because that was the only one they needed to cover at that time, so they only needed one pilot and it went to the junior pilot. Within minutes, the 2nd trip was uncovered, new TC was pulled, your name is now on it so you get the second trip.

Now if both were known about at the same time, then both trips should have been on the same TC....in this case your name should have been on it, you were "needed to fly", and you preference for the first trip should have been honored.

I've had this happen numerous time and a call to scheduler gets its corrected.

If scheds determines you are "needed" to sit SC with a few other pilot, then they are obligated to look at your "if needed" preferences and award in seniority order.

Follow up on it with the union. You should get assignment pay for the trip you flew. Just because their automated coverage system does not honor the contract is not a excuse. Sometimes however you can speed that process by talking to a scheduling supervisor. They are however hard to get a hold off.

They are working May 16 now and this happened in early June, so will be a while before it’s sorted by the ALPA folks.

Sounds like you have a case, and the scheduler didn't/forgot to check for an "if needed" as they are contractually obligated to do. I hope you get paid double for their mistake.

With our PBS, is there an explicit way to avoid short flights? I'd prefer flights that block at least 1.5 hours or so.

Depends on the fleet.
on the 320 the strategy that works ok is bidding by total number of legs. If it’s a 4 day trip with 6-7 legs, you can usually bet they are long legs with higher block time. Heaven forbid we get some rotation credit. 🤦‍♂️

If I’m below the GS trigger, why does my time card show G/SLIP PAY? I flew a GS earlier this month while below the trigger, it all went on my time card as GSCREDIT. But now about 1/3 of that GS shows up as GSLIP PAY and the other 2/3 as GSCREDIT.

Anyone have a clue? Still approx 20 hours below GS trigger.

The GS credit is used up to the trigger. If reached, any remaining time is GS pay.
