Normally when training is assigned to a rotation with a check airman, the FO will get called by scheduling and released from the rotation the night before. Sometimes (usually severe weather events) they will instead require the FO to report at the gate before being released to ensure the trip will go out on time if the training candidate doesn't make it in.

OE releases. Basically if you are paired with an LCA and they will be doing OE, you still have to come in to work for the holidays. But since you will be released you will not get holiday pay. TFAYD

They have done this going back 20 years. Showing for sign in is however not exactly a terrible deal.

Wow ATL73NA has GS dropping with regularity and SSs recently awarded

If there was a better way, they'd have been doing it that way all along right?

What most won't acknowledge when the company has a policy like this is that they don't whip it up out of thin air. It's a cause and effect situation.

How does a fatigue call pay if it extends a pilot into a day off?
