Default Rest Assigned During Last Day of LC

Hey y'all. Newbie question. I am on LC today with an XX day tomorrow followed by 2 golden days and 2 XX days after that. Scheduling put me on rest starting at 12 noon today. Should I expect to get called this weekend for an inverse assignment or is this normal. I figured rest would be self explanatory given today is my last day on LC, hence no need to notify me of being on rest. Thanks!

PSA since you say you’re new…….you NEVER have to pick up the phone…..not on a sit, not on call, not on a layover……ever. So even if they do call you for an IA this weekend……it doesn’t matter…..don’t answer.

Normal, essentially just saying, “you’re not on call anymore “

My understanding is they do this so you can greenslip earlier than you otherwise could have. But that would be totally voluntary as noted above.

Just to expound a little further, with a 12 hour call out you are completely useless to the company starting at noon. Realistically it’s much earlier than that since they have to assign you a trip that releases by 2359. If you stayed on LC all the way till midnight, the earliest you could be legal for a GS or IA would be 10 AM the next day. Putting you into rest at noon means you can do something as early as 2200 that same day, and of course anything starting the next morning.

You will also see rest applied to your schedule if you have an upcoming 168/30 violation. So, you really can’t specifically plan when your 30 hours of rest will occur…you can only determine when you will hit the limit. When scheduling is on their A-game, which is rare these days, they will get your 30hours of rest completed early if that makes you available for days requiring coverage.

Also a newbie, but a tip I've learned is if you don't pick up your phone for that rest call they add 2 (or more) hours to the start of the time off. Thus, you get 32+ hours off instead of 30.
