It’s a fair question. I think there are two or three reasons that ALPA does it this way:
1. A membership-wide ballot would give an advantage to candidates from Atlanta, where two councils are based. 2. Voter participation is typically very low in LEC elections. The current system ensures 100 percent participation in every officer election. 3. The Master Chairman acts as the MEC at-large when the MEC is not in session; the current governance ensures a definitive decision on who gets to act in their names when they’re off the clock, and gives a measure of legitimacy to the office when it interacts with management, government, the media, and third party stakeholders. No one has said yet what % per year of back pay it will be. I think it would be a hard ask to get 25% DOS all the way back to 2020. But a scaled percentage per year until DOS gives us a 25% increase over 2019 rates is reasonable on the DOS would be reasonable. So the real question is what will the scale or annual percentage increase be for each year that the contract was open

We've dragged negotiations to the end, I am not about to settle on anything with a strike around the corner. We will get released. At this point I am after much more than I would've accepted at the end of 2019. I now want trip construction back and above all else, Ed gone. I'd park this airline tomorrow, everyone I know feels the same way.
I've made up my mind that we are striking, at a minimum. |
