If the vast majority can’t identify a Delta pilot by the uniform, how can it be so important to the Delta brand?

I realize it’s a uniform and not a suit, but it looks more like a costume. Uniforms change! Look at the military, sports teams, law enforcement, etc.

Yes, I will wear it and knew I was going to wear it when I applied. The contract outweighed the silliness of our costume and that’s why I applied. We are changing things in the contact, why can’t we change other things for the better?

I absolutely agree. The ship captain costume is dated and 99% of the flying public doesn't know one airline uniform from the next. But hey, I would wear a pope costume to work if the price was right...

Way back in the day, captains had 2 stripes, FOs 1 and a half stripes. Plain bill hats for everyone.

I don’t think 4/3/2 stripes for CAs/FOs/FEs and “scrambled eggs” for captains came until later.

Solution to the jacket dilemma:

PBS bid line #1:

Award rotations w/ destination in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central/Latin America, Hawaii, Africa, South America, Southeast Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, Middle East, India or Micronesia.

Else Start Next

Problem solved.

I only go those places in the summer. In the winter I go north. Not sure how that works out…. 😡

Plenty of passengers do. Every time jacket season returns I'm reminded what passengers think of the uniform as the compliments come raining in. There's no sharper look in the industry than a Delta pilot in a well tailored full uniform.

Again, I recognize I'm probably old school in this approach but just my preference and I hope Delta keeps the uniform policy roughly the same.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I've been here almost 25 years and I've never heard a pax say they liked my uniform. They... don't... care!

Same here, but I’ve had quite a few make positive comments regarding the green lanyard though.

Yeah.. That has stayed the same, but in my time in the Navy (97-21, counting the reserves) I went through the following:

Swoveralls for all shipborne people but aviators, retired
NWU (Digicams in multiple varieties rolled out, forced to buy, then a new version)
Aviation Working Greens retired
Service Dress Khaki back then quietly gone
A bunch of new enlisted uniforms (Reese Cup working uniform) replacing what was out there when I was enlisted.
Three new flight suit options, but the VN era ones are still around.
Johnny Cash uniforms retired

Summer Whites, Chokers, Dress Blues and Khakis are the only ones left from when I joined. And are in far more infrequent use than when I started.

I’ve been here less and get complimented all the time in the winter uniform

maybe I’m just devastatingly handsome

At one point Delta Air lines out sourced 50% of it's flight to Seven Regional Airlines who didn't wear our Uniform Hat and Jacket. It was about cheap regional lift not our Iconic uniform. The only people who love the double breasted jacket and hat are the empty suits in Flight Ops who never wear it.
