If the vast majority can’t identify a Delta pilot by the uniform, how can it be so important to the Delta brand? I realize it’s a uniform and not a suit, but it looks more like a costume. Uniforms change! Look at the military, sports teams, law enforcement, etc. Yes, I will wear it and knew I was going to wear it when I applied. The contract outweighed the silliness of our costume and that’s why I applied. We are changing things in the contact, why can’t we change other things for the better? |

Plenty of passengers do. Every time jacket season returns I'm reminded what passengers think of the uniform as the compliments come raining in. There's no sharper look in the industry than a Delta pilot in a well tailored full uniform.

Swoveralls for all shipborne people but aviators, retired NWU (Digicams in multiple varieties rolled out, forced to buy, then a new version) Aviation Working Greens retired Service Dress Khaki back then quietly gone A bunch of new enlisted uniforms (Reese Cup working uniform) replacing what was out there when I was enlisted. Three new flight suit options, but the VN era ones are still around. Johnny Cash uniforms retired Summer Whites, Chokers, Dress Blues and Khakis are the only ones left from when I joined. And are in far more infrequent use than when I started. |

At one point Delta Air lines out sourced 50% of it's flight to Seven Regional Airlines who didn't wear our Uniform Hat and Jacket. It was about cheap regional lift not our Iconic uniform. The only people who love the double breasted jacket and hat are the empty suits in Flight Ops who never wear it.
