Default Relocation

Relocating to the east coast , NYC based.
Is the 2 hours reserve short call out from JFK or any NYC port?
I assume most of 7ER trips start from JFK anyways …
Any suggestion on living and driving to NYC from with CT (ie Greenwich) or NJ if at all feasible would be much appreciated , not much I can afford in NY state for a descent 2 bedrooms in a safe area with 1 year pay…

Thank you

Promptly available, no contractual time, but 2-2.5 hours in well in the normal range of defensible distance.

Time is to ANY NYC base airport even if your fleet only does JFK. (it's different for LAX) so if LGA is the closest airport to you, 2-2.5 to LGA is fine. Also normal traffic, so if they call you to JFK during Rush Hour and the Van Wyck is hosed, you get there when you safely can.
I (this is me, not ALPA or CPO interpretation) view normal traffic as I am going the speed limit, with normal lights, etc. Goethals or Verazzano bridge is jacked due to an accident? Not my fault. I have taken 4 hours to get to EWR (I was AT JFK) and other than crew tracking getting ****y, no pushback. Captain just wanted my best time estimate because they were in danger of timing out (they were going to) so CS got a fresh Captain and FO as well (3 man crew to Paris)

I would also look at Pennsylvania, you can use EWR as your Short Call point, but you will be driving over to JFK for the bulk of trips.

When I was on the ER in NYC, I lived in Bucks County, PA. Much less expensive than CT or NJ and could still sit short call at home (about an hour to EWR). I’d suggest you take a look at Yardley and Newtown in PA.

Thanks for the informative answers !
I assume there wouldn’t be much traffic also still shows about 2 hours to JFK on a Saturday night .
Would Greenwich or Jersey City area be any faster ?
I m looking for about 1 hour mark during normal traffic hours to drive to and from work if at all possible .

I’m twice the distance that Greenwich is from LGA and I’m 1 hour no traffic.

Just FYI, Greenwich has the highest median income of any city or town in the WORLD. Some neighborhoods there are out of reach even for eb. I doubt you will find it meets your budget unless you have a hedge fund as your side gig.

Bear in mind every time you cross the Hudson you're looking at $14 in tolls in addition to whatever it takes cross another bridge to JFK. OTOH, if I you stay east of the Hudson, the COL will increase.

The further east you go in CT the lower the COL.

Begs the question, why is the Hudson so darned expensive to build a bridge across?

You can drive 150miles from Miami to Key predominately on a bridge for free, but to cross the Hudson regularly adds up fast.

Its almost as if it's a punitive rather than utilitarian.
