It was an issue if you were active duty. Not so much after you get out. Not an issue when discussing with them (even if you stay in Guard/Reserve)

I’m looking to get a term life policy outside of Delta’s offered options. What companies have you been happy with? Thanks in advance.

AAFMAA was a better deal than SGLI/VGLI when I was shopping.

ALPA offers a lot of term as well as disability options that are very reasonably priced and easy to get. Depending on the amount of coverage they may or may not send a nurse to your house for a quick simple physical.

I went through Zander and got a $700k 20 year for $1450/year.
I had everything included as I fly ACMI, the not-so-friendly countries and Hazmat/Dangerous goods and flight instruction and flying little planes.

I used Zander to get price quotes for a baseline. Then I went searching direct to see if I could beat the price. It was a few years ago I ended up with Protective Life. I Haven’t tested their coverage yet. Hope my policy turns out to be a poor investment later if you get my drift.

You only need to run if you throw like Max Duggan.

Buy term and invest the difference. There is a small argument to be made for a high cash value, participating whole life policy from a mutual company. Even so, the concept of Infinite Banking pioneered by Nelson Nash is better suited to those with net worth exceeding the IRS estate tax exemption limits. For peasants like airline pilots, doctors and engineers, a better solution is a brokerage account with low margin rates like Interactive Brokers. You accomplish the same thing, minus the estate tax exemption and have more control over how the "cash balance" is invested and grows.

Double down on AAFMAA. Way better than USAA, just got a 400k term policy through age 78. Around $150.
