Single Breasted Jackets

It’s official.

What say you all?

Jokes on all of you that dry cleaned your jacket before putting it away! Guess it becomes invalid Nov 1.
Really think they'll have enough made by then?

dbrownie 03-10-2023 11:03 AM

”The hat remains a required uniform item, quickly identifying you as a professional Delta pilot to our customers and fellow employees.“

Added bonus….

Did you notice the angry mannequins? Look like they just got rerouted

NuGuy 03-10-2023 11:08 AM

My guess is they wouldn’t be paying for it unless the contract required it.

Gulfasaurus 03-10-2023 11:08 AM

I'm a little disappointed. So much for the iconic Delta look. Now we get to choose if we want to look like an Emirates pilot or an Endeavor pilot. And I would have really preferred they chose one or the other, since the whole point of a uniform is to, you know, look uniform instead of having different variations floating around. It is what it is, it's not something I'm going to get worked up about, since they're paying for the new one anyway, I was just hoping for better. Now if we're doing Emirates can we at least have their smaller hat too?

Bike Handles 03-10-2023 11:20 AM

I used to think the double breasted was outdated. But somehow I think the single breasted option they have presented looks worse… (And yes, I did the surveys)

I got a peak at the new pilot hat and it is awesome. Very comfortable and packable.

I vote that International Pilots get the double breasted, but with white PanAm hats. Us domestic guys can look like edv and skw with hats.

Exactly. Two different jacket types in the same crew will look ridiculous.

For international it will be 3 different when you include the black north face jacket.

4. I'm not wearing the jacket.

+1… Pick one or the other.

Um, have you seen our flight attendants recently?

JetPilotDaddy 03-10-2023 11:59 AM

My guess is color is intentionally not black so no more Haggar or Lululemon.
Wonder if Haggar would match the color for us?

Unless the Gap pants are amazing and affordable I intend to continue getting what I like. Nobody notices it’s not a perfect match.

And it doesn’t matter at all 8 months out of the year.

GeneralLee 03-10-2023 01:28 PM

This reminds me of my time in the USAF. Someone is getting promoted for this horrible project.

The more things change, the more they stay the same....

FangsF15 03-10-2023 01:32 PM

If there is anything iconic about the image/brand, it’s the double breasted jacket, far more so than the hat (as we just proved).

And they sacrificed it on the alter of so-called “inclusiveness”. Because somehow, we can’t give the women a properly fitting jacket without offering it to the men.

Look at the bright side, you can trade in your tie for a scarf.

Were you in the Noord lobby this week, too?

Hey, you don’t want to look like an Endeavor RJ driver and have to downgrade to the single breasted jacket like us and be the “hired help” . At least go for the Emirates look 😂.

If one has a hard landing then the Captain Crunch outfit would be perfect 😂

GogglesPisano 03-10-2023 04:03 PM

This will go down like the "Official Uniform Store," at the Training Center. Only newhires will buy stuff as they are marched through during indoc.

I'll take the free blazer and pants.

I guess I spoke too soon.

PB threw down the gauntlet. After 1 Nov, old uniform items will no longer be authorized.

I can only imagine what the commuter friendly hat will look like.

It will look like the Captain from the Captain and Tennille.

I was hoping for more like Gilligan.

igotgummed 03-11-2023 03:18 AM

And again no mention of any kind of useful winter option. Sweater/Northface/leather.

Jaww 03-11-2023 03:21 AM

I just told my wife about the changes and that I was going single breasted. She doesn’t know the difference so I showed her the pictures. She informed me I would still be going double breasted  :p

I guess anecdotally there is a data point.

Phuz 03-11-2023 04:04 AM

uniform (adj.) 1530s, "of one form," from French uniforme (14c.), from Latin uniformis "having only one form or shape," from uni- "one" (see uni-) + forma "form" (see form (n.)).

PotatoChip 03-11-2023 04:23 AM

Would have preferred we stick with the DB, but the masses have spoken. Always thought the Delta uniform looked great and set us apart. Oh well, the times they are changing. Not going to lose sleep over it.

And I’ve never lost sleep over our uniform or our hat…but I am curious about being set apart. To what end?

Ditto.

They better have outstanding quality control to prevent a repeat of the the Passport Plum Debacle.

Are you asking me to what end? Or in general, referencing the company?
If me, I believe our uniform looks the best, and reflects our product. I’m not a rah rah company guy, and am still on probation, but after 18 years of 121 flying for multiple airlines (including wearing a double breast at a foreign carrier) I think we stand out in a good way. Maybe I’m just imagining it, and I know people will disagree, but I think our passengers respond better/more positively to us in our uniform.

The uniform we wear 3-4 months a year?

Yup.
Or you can wear it all year.
Or you can just deliberately be difficult.
Choose your own adventure!

Tanker1497 03-11-2023 04:57 AM

Passengers respond to the lowest price on Orbitz.

Passengers that fly once a year do.
If you think Orbitz is how our business model works though….

Please don't be that person who wears it all year.

And I'm not being difficult. I probably only wear it 2-3 months a year. For it "setting us apart" we sure don't wear it that much..
