I think the real big news here is that this is a shot across the bow at Coca-Cola. Can’t believe they hired a Pepsi guy to work in the Delta/Coke Mecca.

When was the last time a Bastian hire in flight ops panned out?
I guess John Laughter's job just got diluted. oh, well. I'm sure the new guy's lessons learned from bottling soda pop will translate brilliantly to the challenges of running a global airline. Coke is so much more popular than Pepsi there’s a recurring internet theory that Pepsi created it’s restaurant division in the 70’s & 80’s (Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC and others) because it was the only way they could get their less popular fizz sugar water to be sold at all. Since all our fortunes are tied together, I wish him well. |

Surprised no one has commented on how he was a Pepsi guy for 25 years and is now in a famously Coke town. [edit: intercept beat me to it]

Bastian used to work at Pepsi.
New COO’s first job, Marine Artillery: send stuff down range, on time, on target. Last job: give people a ride and have them leave with a smile on their face. I don’t folks, boxes are being checked! |

I wonder how long JL sticks around in his neutered role. |
