Would love to see a big Delta order when Airbus officially announces the extended A220 - they are calling it the “A221” like the A321. A big aspect will be getting a 2nd engine option beyond P&W like what you see in A320 models. This stretched version with 170 seats has been rumored for awhile but the current P&W and supply-chain issues (leading to slow delivery rates in Mobile) haven’t helped the situation. There have also been A319Neo order cannibalization concerns - but very few have been ordered given the poor economics. Evidently Delta, JB, Air Canada and Air France have expressed interest in a stretched A220 version. Here are two recent articles about it:
Two articles about name change and potential engine option change:
https://www.airlinerwatch.com/2023/07/airbuss-boss-names-extended-a220.html?m=1
https://www.airlinerwatch.com/2023/06/airbus-ceo-hints-at-additional-engine.html?m=1
From the article above it sounds like they are looking at revamping the wing too - so it could be a few years out… Would love to see a big order replacing older A319/A320s (older NW birds) and maybe some of the older 738s. And is it too much to ask for a Delta “A221” base eventually in Atlanta?

you just won’t give up your A220 fetish. That article is a little light on details. No way Airbus funds a program like that until the fix the all the problems with the current models. Engine issues, dispatch reliability, manufacturing issues. Until they start making money selling these aircraft they are not going to spend the money on certification for a new one. For those that have been paying attention Airbus is unlikely to make amends with suppliers to reduce costs after they were burned by the Emerites fake order for A380s that was canceled 10 years ago. Suppliers tend not to forget **** like that.
the only reason Delta doesn’t have most of their A220s parked waiting for parts like other airlines is they have their own engine shop able to keep them flying with the engine issues. How long can they keep that up?

We’re doing just fine with the fleet, thanks

The 225 or whatever you call it would be a great replacement for the 319s in the later half of the decade. Goes with the current strategy of upgauging (320->Max10) etc. Solid fleet of 60+ of them would take the total family numbers to just shy of 180, assuming no further -300 top ups.

But the others are just an excuse as a proxy because that’s where the G.O. is, and people hate management.
I mean, come on…. ATL ATC is some of the most proficient in the world. I’ve had sits in every single hub in the system. Parking is horrible everywhere. Lack of Geography? Really?

I’ll give you reroutes, plane swaps (but it’s not like it doesn’t happen per capita more than other hubs), and gate agents.

ATL is expensive for what it is, an inland city in driving distance of but not in the mountains. Same goes for MSP actually. DTW has the great lakes right there which is ocean-enough for many.
Back when you could buy a baller house in golf cart land on 2nd year F/O pay without a side gig, familial wealth, working spouse or some other "non Delta source of money" the cost of living vs nice enough and really, REALLY close to work was hard to beat.
I look at the numbers of senior-ish but not crazy area code seniority guys I flew with on the ER, who had a house in PTC, and a lake/beach/mountain house and didn't have a high income spouse or crazy good side gig. Bought it when new-ish hires, and then bought the 2nd home around the time they upgraded.. Most told me they got lucky and bought before ATL went nuts real estate wise for non aviation reasons.
I know anecdotes are not data, but ATL over the last 20 years median home prices have almost tripled. While that's the metro as a whole, and not any specific neighborhood, that took away one of the better reasons to move to ATL, in that you could easily afford a very nice house in a very good school district, without it being a financial stretch on what a 2nd year FO makes. Buying a house in PTC would be doable for me now, and I don't have any really crazy bills anymore as a NB Captain, but forget about it on F/O pay if we have another contraction.
I'd be willing to be somewhat house-poor if I was a few blocks off the beach in SoCal, or had a place where I could go ride my mountain bike out of my yard and ride my dirtbikes without driving hours to get to the closest practice track or state ORV area.
But ATL doesn't have that much in the "it's right here" geography wise (aka it's not ever going to be built) for me to want to pay that premium price.
