Agree.

Most localities cheer for their local Chambers of Commerce, despite the fact the organization's primary goal is the destruction and end of organized labor. Politics has a whole lot to do with houw labor and labor unions do.

I will never understand my friends (most of them) who advocate for stuff that actually harms them. At the same time they never seem to appreciate the good done by those who are on their side (enforcement of bilateral trade agreements and safety standards that allow Delta to compete trans-oceanic against nation-state-airlines).

The median Widebody Captain's Pay at Virgin is $174,000. They do not augment their crews with two Captains.

Compare that to how you do at Delta.

ALPA hate is an interesting topic. Ive been here 10 years and have met a number, 7-8 maybe, of ALPA reps who seem to be politicians and taking advantage of a good deal. Seeing someone getting 80+hrs at whatever they could hold for answering phones, while the line pilot is on a 4 day with 10 legs and a redeye just doesnt seem right to me. I saw many guys like that in the AF- didnt want to fly and found a job that served themselves better. My early opinions were probably affected by those interactions. After a decade, I definitely have a better understanding of what the union provides and am very happy we have one. The scheduling committee has saved/made me untold dollars. Worth their wieght in gold imho. The engage podcasts are fantastic and very educational. Highly recommended. The R&I committee seems to be looking out for our financial futures better than most of us could on our own. On the negative side, imho, we are paying too much-especially now that we have 17K+ pilots. I hear we are getting a dues refund, but hoping its more than a couple hundred bucks of the thousands weve paid. Less conferences with fully stocked bars and steak dinners at suites in Vegas may help. (Joking). Sort of. Just my observation.

Well, apparently we are paying FPL, travel days, per diem(?), and lodging for C44 and C20 reps to sit and read a newspaper for a week ... so there's that.

Since my very first paper route in elementary school, I’ve looked for whatever job serves me best. I still do, as does my spouse, and we hope our kids will do the same. ALPA/line pilot/school house/4th floor - different strokes for different folks.

That’s super and all but an ALPA rep is suppose to serve their respective pilots, not themselves.

A C81 rep lost sight of that and got booted. There’s a couple reps in Detroit and Atlanta that need to be reminded of that. So far they have put enriching themselves ahead of all else.

It’s a story as old as time. Ain’t no system perfect. I’m glad to see the culling happen when it needs to.
