I honestly didn't think you could get denied for tinnitus. Did t think there was any way to test for it

I’m laughing reading everyone’s comments about stereotypes of captains who wear ship sets, recalling a fairly recent takeoff where, as PM, I called V1, Rotate and did not see any movement on the yoke. I yelled louder, “RO-TATE!” at which point we both laughed. That was in the loudest 717 I’ve flown.
This story ends short. You DID rotate... right? RIGHT?

One of my buddy's from flight school had his denied. And according to the audiologist that did my evaluation you're correct, there isn't a way to test for tinnitus. They tested me for hearing loss but the tinnitus portion is a questionnaire. They essentially just ask a bunch of questions to see how the ringing in your ears affects your everyday life.

Had a long discussion about this with the audiologist while she did my evaluation. The gist of it: hearing loss and tinnitus are two separate conditions but still to this day there's a lot of resistance in accepting that. So it's harder to get rated for tinnitus if you don't have some hearing loss

I think there could potentially be ways of measuring tinnitus. A common symptom is hearing loss when there's backgound noise. Ever have trouble hearing conversation when you're at a busy dinner establishment? That's commonly referred to as a loss of clarity, not necessarily volume. Just means that, when you're hearing really does start to go...you'll be doubly ****ed. The only thing you'll hear while ****ting your pants in hospice is the sound of a tiny APU running in your head.
