Default 2025 best travel credit card

Revisiting a much discussed topic…

What’s the best deal going right now for new credit cards? Is Chase sapphire preferred still the one?

I use the Fidelity card. 2% cash back on every purchase and no foreign transaction fees.

I'm a big fan of the C1 Venture X card. 2x points for everything so there isn't any mental math to do about which card to use where.

There is not a good one of us/ non reving its gone down hill a lot. I would either get a Chase Card or AMEX where you can get points and transfer them to a hotel of your choice or airline. Chase has Marriott, IHG and Hyatt and AMEX has Hilton and Marriott. Or look at getting a hotel card or two and putting spend on that to get points as well as elevated benefits for when you travel. Most of our hotels don't give us points let along stay credit kind of sucks.

Yes. You get access to Priority Pass, Plaza Premium, and Cap1 lounges. No seat assignment required.

Amex has terrible redemptions, Chase SR fees are now through the roof, Cap1 VentureX seems like the best value by far right now. Basically free if you use the travel credits, useful status at Hertz, and 2% without categories. If you have a lot of restaurant/travel expenses you might be able to pair it with a low fee/low benefit card with higher accrual and easier redemption in those categories.

Thepointsguy.com. It all changes every year. At the end of the day, points/miles are scams. What was 10 years ago to fly to Europe was 50k miles. Now 500k. A reason why they call sky miles sky pesos.

capital one plunges don’t let non-revs in. Also, priority pass is almost worthless in the US due to overcrowding and lack of PP lounges open during peak hours

Many lounges have lost their appeal due to overcrowding. If everyone is special, noone is special. Almost not worth keeping the amex or chase cards for lounge access anymore. Certainly have to be more judicious on its use to ensure you get your money's worth. Thinking of just going for straight cash back and being done with it because we dont use the travel points enough.

Amex travel portal for hotels is really good and the perks when you book their hotel collection. Need the gold or platinum for that though. I rack up a lot of point with the Amex Gold card - 4x at restaurants and grocery store, and just wait for a transfer bonus to an airline or hotel to book something. I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve for the $300 travel credit and now $300 stub hub points really, 3x on hotels and 2x on travel. Hopefully once school is back in session their lounges won’t be as crowded and then PP is good for Europe - also I think Chase has better transfer bonuses and more variety of partners than Amex alone
