Like most Americans, I define "rich people" as anyone that makes more than I do. So, yeah, let's stick it to the rich!

The original intention was to help poor elderly people. Now we have rich airline pilots who think that they are entitled to a government handout. I didn't realize that there were so many socialist on this forum.

I paid a tax for an established, enumerated, government entitlement when I hit the appropriate age. Which they've already moved the goalpost on in my lifetime.

Again, I previously asked why should I get nothing when a person with identical lifetime earnings who spent it all vs saving/investing.

I doubt any of you guys are interested but if you are here's a starting point to understand reality for half of Americans.

You do realize a lot of us grew up poor, and worked to get where we are now but also understand how the other half lives far better than some always been rich guy who has a white knight complex right?

I grew up without an indoor toilet until junior high. I've been homeless. More than once. I understand what its like to be poor. All the white knighting in the world won't change my take of "if I paid same tax as dudebro X, I should get sane benefit even though I saved and he blew it all on hookers and blow."

Anyone who grew up rich isn't going to become an air line pilot. I didn't know I was poor until boot camp. My way to get a college education was the GI bill and the student loan repayment plan circa 1990s. I did have a flush toilet. (a, singular, in the 2 bedroom 800 square foot apartment that my single mother rented) I am not a victim but I wanted to play "whose come the furthest" too. I'll take the silver and be happy with my accomplishment. Sadly, I don't think there will ever be a bootstrap exemption for the means testing that will have to come.

Rich is always relative.

To me, a doctors kid was rich. To them it was normal.

Would "those of us who grew up below the 15th income percentile" be a better metric?

Ask us to tell you when the bids come out (and other extremely basic job functions), then tell us we're too rich to collect social security. The strangest about-face I've seen. Put the cocktail and the keyboard down. You have more important things to worry about.
