What about when the 717 crew, on an average day, carries 440 passengers and completes 4 checklists, 2 tail swaps, and 4 takeoffs and landings? Does this make their job easier and justify such a significant pay cut? ..

What would be so wrong with UPS style single pay rate?

And we would be spending that negotiating capital on 2 fleets that will retire in the near future.
"Soon" was used during the last round as well. Apparently, soon means a decade+, or about 1/3rd of most pilot carrers. I'm certainly not a saying it should just be WB/NB, but there was zero reason the 717 didn't at least get banded with the A221.

I listened to the then CEO of Delta during the 777 pay negotiations explain that he could pay a 777 CA 500.00 a hour because the airframe generated the revenue to support that rate. He then went on to state he would not pay that rate because we would then demand 400.00 per hour for a 737 CA which could not support that rate.
Is that 777 picking up passengers in TVC? |

Weird…in my Indoc class we had a high level finance person that spoke to us…said “when you get your profit sharing checks, make sure you thank the 717 and Maddog pilots because that is where the profit is generated”

[mod edit]. As always, thanks for the most company-friendly interpretation, retired guy. You know and I know that mgmt led DALPA to believe they'd offer SILs.

Why did they park the mad dogs as fast as they could? Heck the MD90 had better fuel burn per seat than the A320.
If it weren’t for COVID, management would probably still have a few around. As well as the ever-profitable 777, which was parked equally fast. |

Weird that DALPA did not mention that in the pilot briefing. If you were at the MEC meeting shortly after in ATL I was the guy who stood up and asked why we did not have language mandating the SIL based on manning. The answer was it was a 60 day agreement and not worth any negotiating capital. The SIL part was basically an after thought of virtually no importance to the pilots. The Covid protections were however fantastic. Why this forum is still hung up on a 2 bid period agreement eludes me. Especially considering you could pretty much not work and get 70 hours pay or bid a line and get more hours and still not work at all in many categories.
People are upset that management bargained in bad faith and responded arrogantly when questioned. That was a pivot point that established management’s overall disregard for its deals in the years since. |
