This has been a thing since... around October 2025. Plenty of folks (including myself) raising a fuss about it. A little surprised literally everyone isn't aware of it by now.

I think it got quashed as a "oh you poor RES pilots" thing for awhile, but it always affected REG. The effects just weren't as obvious at first.

Thanks for the snark junior

Note I said it's the first time I'm seeing it in my BES (WB A)

I'm starting to think your category is real widebody captain genius.

I agree to the above 100%

All I'm saying is this was an issue well over 6 months ago. Not trying to be all "I told you so", but this is the same problem most RES pilots have been crying about for months, some REG pilots have also been crying about, and all of a sudden a bunch of previously unaffected but now affected are like "holy **** this is a problem!" as summer rolls around.

Sometimes being told about something doesn’t have the same affect as seeing it for yourself and actually being affected by it.

Are mist of the pre-posted rest days on weekends? Just enough posted to stop all drops and trades?

The bulk of the pre-20th PCS run pre-posted rest comes from the last day of a RES block prior to a golden X-day. For most RES, that would be up to 3 affected days. Pre-posted 30-168 rest would also be posted by the 20th.

I don't think this would necessarily concentrate around weekends, but haven't looked at it that closely. If a higher proportion of RES pilots had golden X-days on Sunday or Monday, they yea maybe the pre-posted rest would land more on weekends (Sat/Sun).

Just as a spitball example, say a category has 300 pilots with 20% as RES, so 60 RES pilots. Each RES pilot has up to 3 instances of pre-posted rest, so 180 instances. Spread those out over a 30-day month, and one might expect RES available to drop by a least 6 pilots on every day in the month on account of this rest, on the 19th. I'm curious if this tracks with what folks whom have been watching have seen.

Generally your senior pilots are bidding some form of Monday or Tuesday through Thursday or Friday. So Thursday and Friday get big cuts to availability. Junior reserves get scattered around more but a lot will have a weekend block of Friday through Sunday or Monday. In theory Tuesdays Wednesdays and Saturdays would have the fewest number of reserves finishing a block.

Agree. Also pre-posted 30-168 rest definitely has an outsized impact as well, since it will always touch at least 2 (and possibly even 3) LC days, taking that RES pilot off the available list for all of those days. This usually gets posted some time after DBMS is loaded and by the 19th.

Someone in management was very smart and realized that the contract says a reserve pilot only counts on the grid if they are available for 24 hours. The company hates when pilots manipulate their schedules, and this is their way of trying to stop it. Of course, there are *many* more ways to get rid of flying than straight drops, although it seems many pilots are not as proficient at the other methods.

Will pre-posted rest hold up in arbitration? I don’t think so. The company does not actually respect the rest they place on schedules. They happily use pilots until 11:59pm the day prior to their golden days, and they move 30 hour rest periods at will. There is decades of past practice where pre-posted rest was not used, and it circumvents the meaning and intent of the PWA. But, it’ll be years before it gets to arbitration (if it even gets that far before getting settled), and in that time, the company gets to reap the benefits.

A 320B friend got one not long ago. If I remember correctly, a few went out that week.
