No way around it even if I pay full price for the phone.
I was just talking to my wife about this annoying rule the other day. I think in the long term, you're going to see these data packages part of your regular bill. Remember when texting came out and you had to pay per text? Now most plans just include texting in the cost of your service. I now have unlimited texting and I'm not paying anymore on my bill than I was a couple of years ago. I'm hoping this act of charging separately for data service will go away as more phones become "smart." I have a simple feature phone for now and will keep it until I see the cost of the data plans come down. It's stupid that you have to pay for this stuff even if you don't want it, but hopefully that will change soon.

It will change when people stop paying for it. With cell towers over their max with all the data these plans and fees are not going anywhere. Texting is different as the data overtook it.

you can unlock an iphone and use it on other networks also, I use mine on t-mobile. Unlimited everything for about $67 a month. Buy the phone off craigslist.

If anything the industry and the public are collectively guilty of buying enough into the hype, that they made the legend true by running scared at every opportunity to fight.
I'm not old, very junior actually. But I know what the old guys feel about SWA because I hear it all the time. Sadly, most of these guys have no idea how big SWA has become.

Another thing I can't stand, whenever RA speaks ... or other managers for that reason, they never include SWA in our "competitive set" or airlines. I'm tired of hearing how we are doing against UAL, AA, USAir, and CAL. I want to know how we're doing against the big elephant in the room that is SWA.

Last koolaid meeting WN was addressed very strongly as to how we were fairing against them as well as tranny.

Don't worry, AT&T has a solution to the bandwidth problems. AT&T is going to usage based pricing for data. Sucks to be an iPhone user.

If you think you're iPhone is costing you now, wait until you realize just how much bandwidth all of those apps are using.

Yes it works very well on my Palm.

Additionally, I THINK the last time I looked at APDL, they had discontinued use of stand alone programs for importing your schedules to a web-based system (meaning you can to be online to use it), and you HAD to use Logbook Pro to get your data out of APDL, which meant that you had to buy LBP if you were going to use the data in any way (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this).

I have both and they work together like a champ with a few exceptions. Major problem is tech support.

It's really too bad, because nothing worked as well as APDL for doing what it does....keep your times and check for legalities. All the other logbook programs for the iPhone either try to be all things to all pilots (GA, Corporate, etc) or are filled with bloat to the point they're almost unusable.

Could not agree more..

Now the last time I talked with the Flightline people, they SAID they were working on an iPhone app. No dates were given, but they said it was "in testing".

I look forward to see that.

You could even set it up to scan for open time, do swaps or other PCS transactions, check the reserve list, and whatever else your little heart desired.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, no I got a big heart.

Just my opinion...

Nu
Thanks a lot for your opinion, highly appreciated. I guess it looks like I will wait a little bit longer to get one as the GF has one and the palm is still working A OK for me.
