Not sure if I'm reading your question correctly, but....

There were 20 ADDITIONAL 7ER vacancies. You add that to all of the seats that were left empty when guys bid out of the category and it's a lot more than 20 positions needing to be filled.

They definitely did not fill all of the 76 ADDITIONAL slots on the -88. In fact there were more than that available because like above seats were left empty when some of those guys bid off the aircraft as well.

I'm so confused when my name becomes a verb.

What exactly happened with 7ER and how in the world did it go so junior that someone at 99.909 held it. Anotherwords, just 12 from the bottom of 12,176. That's wild.

So if we start hiring off the street, whats gong to be the class drop?

How do you bid 744?

This is simply a testament to our lousy reserve system and lousy trips on the 7ER. It's been that way at DAL since we went to the RAW score system and got rid of a good high yellow system. When I got hired it took me 8 years to hold ER F/O, but back then the airplane did nothing but 3 on, 4 off flying trips with 24 hour layovers in Europe. When a new hire can hold the airplane, that should tell us something....

I remember when a guy had to be pretty senior to hold an ER right seat, that was when it paid substantially better than the narrow bodies and had little if any domestic flying mixed in with it. It will continue to go junior as the flying will be all domestic if you are junior in the category and the pay differential is not worth it over the narrow jet seats.

I bid off the left seat to the ER right to get off reserve and to get a life back. Commuting to reserve on this system covering multiple airports is no fun.

If anyone needs someone to work with in Washington concerning real estate, give this lady a call, she is a real go getter and is a pleasure to work with. She gave me permission to put her contact info here. (It is breaking the TOS under advertisement and therefore redacted. Consider yourself reminded) Very well then, if anyone needs that info they can PM me, sorry El Hefe!!!

I agree that reserve on the ER in NYC isn't the best these days - it used to be better. Now it's covering three airports, 0400 short calls (that lasts 24 hours) and 2 day domestic trips that are uncommutable on both ends. Really rough for a commuter, for sure.

I've been hoping for DTW on this last AE because I live 30 minutes from the employee lot. I think if I had to continue to commute and didn't live in a base, I might eventually move over to something I could hold a line on.

I have worked under an APA type system, and it looks four months out. With a shift as large and drastic as this, we would be in a lot of hurt with a a four month window. The AE system allows large fluctuation and changes that they are seeing in to late this year or next. Perfect? No, not at all, as we can see with all of the reinstatement bids. What this does though is allow anyone that was MD and reinstated a chance that they will not get converted from the old bid. Many of those pilots were not to train till later this year.

Under an APA type system the pilots are awarded then trained in a more near picture sort of scheme. The AE process allows them to plan training in the winter months, months out. APA would not allow that. They would be looking at Dec staffing in Aug. As we have seen that changes and it would result in many people training then converting again. AE awards allow a ton of flex.

I process in between would probably work best for all.
All good points, however the company could look as far out as they want on each APA. 4 months is an arbitrary figure. They can make it what ever they want. As far as planning when training will occur, they could taylor the monthly APAs to award the most positions in a time frame that would have training occur in the winter months.

Not saying that one system is better than the other, but I did like the information available and the monthly run of preferences so that you could see where you stood on each and every piece of equipment that you were asking for a position on.

I think possibly an improvement in the information available from the AE system would help. Goes back to the much needed improvements in the IT arena. Just seeing the number of guys and what their 1,2,3 preference is ok, but I like seeing a list of guys as well as displaced guys and what their preferences are. Just more information. Under the AE system you have no idea of how the seniority of the guys runs above or below you until you see an actual bid list. Not really that critial but nice to know. Also the company can see who wants what before they put out positions and can make better decisions about the effects of certain positions they decide to award. No biggie, either system works, what's good for one is bad for another.

I will keep it in, not that I will see it. They would have to be around for a long long time.
