Unless there are world wide 757s available that FedEx isn't scarfing up I don't think the 55s will be replaced. The bus boys think that is what the A330s sitting on the factory show room? I have no real knowledge, just reading the tea leaves like everyone else. As you know, the guys with a real guess ain't say'en.

As far as the -9s, I'm guessing a revolving door in and out of the desert? What happened at the MEC meeting.........have you seen the food fight about updates on the DALPS forum?

I was given that thread on Airliners.net. I also have a few other tidbits.
As for the 330's those were mentioned last night, but they were very no committal on them. That is a lot different that what I have been hearing, but they may be playing the two manufactures against each other.
10 330's would be nice, but I do no think the have the same role as the 757. I can see 321's doing that role. I can see the 330's doing the role of the domestic 767's that will be parked.

Yeah I agree that A330s are way too big to replace domestic 757s. The bus boys have argued A321s for years but they are real dogs compared to a 757. But, they probably are availabe..........somewhere.............

Lots of balls in the air.

I agree, there is a lot going on.
It is interesting that the number of 5500 series almost equal the amount of 757's in VCV.

What are airport costs for 2 flights vice 1?
etc., etc.,

Bottom line is aircraft are selected to hopefully match demand (revenue) to costs. Note that Delta and NW used to have 800 "connection aircraft." Now that number is less than 700. My bet is that it will be at lot less at this time next year.

And why are you using MD88's or DC9's for comparison? Why not use the 64 A319 and 737-700's in the analysis? Or does that skew the results you want?

I will agree that this is simplistic. Sometimes that is a good thing, however it is only as flawed as the data. You incorrectly point out that crew cost and maintenance cost are not included. They are part of the total operating cost as reported to the DOT. Also, the landing fees are paid by Delta not by the regional airlines as are many other pass through cost.

You are correct that I picked the MD88 and DC9 for a purpose. We have a lot of them and we have not announced any major replacements for them. If we continue on our present course these will be replaced with CRJs and ERJs not 737 and A319s as we continue to allow our scope to erode. A better comparison that I don't have data for would be the 727 and 737-200. Look at the routes being flown by RJs today and compare to the 727 and 737-200.

My point still stands that the 70 and 76 seat jets are a negative force pulling on our pay rates. One main reason we are parking CRJ-200s and ERJ135s is that mainline pay and benefits have been slashed by half making us more cost effective. If that were not the case my bet is we would be parking MD88s and DC9.

I have no problem with operating CRJ and ERJ aircraft in order to match demand and revenue. However, I think that mainline pilots should be the ones operating them.

I did not know that (doing my best Ed McMan voice). Interesting, then they would have the right wing tips. Also, the FMCs on the 55s are so overloaded they are painful to watch. VNav with an assigned speed is worthless, the cockpit seats were worn out even before bankruptcy

So would it be a swap out, or are we talking reduction here? You mentioned 50 757's earlier. If they parked those I think I'd be taking an involutary vacation.

Hey Ferd..........thats what the FRM is for. The reporting code is 251124(02) in my case. I seem to have to use it a lot.

What is starting to scare me is the old seats are showing up in 56xx jet, probably from the desert

I know what you mean. They're supposed to be a/c type specific. But Mx obviously didn't get that memo. Either way my backside feels better for it. It amazes me how many guys accept having to use torn up checklists and worn out seats. Call 'em inbound. They'll have a new seat and checklist in 20 minutes. But maybe that's just me.................G
