Is US Air really up 19% today? Must have missed some good news.

George;

You're a smart guy. Go out on a limb and speculate.

DAL is up 9%. Haven't seen it above $8 in a while.

Airlines pulling back 2012 capacity. Delta 2-3% pullback from 2011 levels along with AMR and UCAL pulling back. LCC said they saw strong revenue growth in July and don't see a pullback in demand as a result of the global economic uncertainties. Bad news for pilot staffing equals great news for Wall Street. I guess the block hour plan for 2012 will result in some surpluses on the next fall bid.

I bet we are no more than 2-3% off for next summer.

Might be something bigger than that. The slot swap is a good deal for both, but a 19% jump is really significant for what the airlines involved touted as neutral.

AMR is also trading over 10 million shares today as well. UAL is trading above average too.....

Nope. Pulling back capacity for 2012. That seems to be the only bit of news that causes airline stocks to go up the last few years. If we post a record quarterly profit and forecast an increase in revenue, the stock goes nowhere. If we say we see demand dropping, increasing costs, global uncertainty, so we're pulling back capacity, the stock soars.
