There is one guy that interviewed with you on the 25th that just got the call for the October 20th class.

AF told me the same - class dates were based on the last 4 of your social. I was trying to figure out how that comes into play with seniority within your class also being based on your last 4. So for someone like me, with a low SS, I not only am a full month (2 or 3 classes, I guess) behind the presumably best SS holder in my interview group, but now I am also guaranteed to be ranked near the bottom of my actual interview class. Sort of sounds like double jeopardy to me. Am I interpreting this social security ranking thing correctly?

Sounds like I am complaining, but I am really not. Just trying to figure this out.

Yep, that's it. Used to be age and some guys got bent about that. What would you suggest? Crud or rolling the dice?

Buzz, they can't "flip it" every so often without being in violation of our PWA. Section 20 B.2. of the contract controls and it requires that the highest numbers for last 4 of the SSN get the lowest (most senior) seniority numbers in a class.

This same section dictated the age factor (oldest pilot gets the lowest (most senior) seniority number within a class) for all pilots hired by Delta prior to the implementation of C2k.

If there is any evidence that they are "flipping it" every so often, this needs to be brought to the attention of the MEC Contract Administration Committee pronto.

I don't think that's literally how it works WRT CJO's getting put into classes. Otherwise CJO's with low last 4's would ever get a class as there'd always be someone above them. I think classes are roughly assigned by when you interviewed, of course notwithstanding flows, bypasses and whatever else.

Once in class, last 4 ssn gets you your number on the master list, and higher last 4 the better as far as that goes.

Class dates are assigned based on your interview date. Within that interview date, Last-4 breaks the tie. No one who interviewed after you jumps ahead because of a higher Last-4.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. So it sounds like 4 guys from my interview group had a "tie" for a very limited number of slots in two classes, which was broken with SS numbers, and somehow, thanks to flow and other guys who deferred, the 4 of us wound up in 3 different classes, even though we all interviewed on the same day.

I understand the ranking within the class, I was just confused about ranking people between classes in determining who gets the next class date. I think this explains it.

I could be wrong. I was in one of the last classes (01) to use age. Not only was I the oldest but I had the highest SSN so I got my first choice. I was told, while I was furloughed unfortunately, that they had gone to the last four shortly thereafter. It was my understanding that sometime in the 2008 hiring phase that they shifted it to the lowest last four. My bad.
