It's simply amazing how much DALPA's carefully crafted survey wording and format will lead us right where they want us to be: Concessions. With the company making record profits.

I sure hope we don't allow ourselves to get steamrolled by the company/DALPA tagteam again on C15.

That will be a very difficult problem with our current reps in ATL, SLC, and one in CVG. These guys actually prefer top-down "steamrolling". It's exactly what they want.

The only way out of this will be tossing those reps, then constantly reminding our reps that we won't be angry with them for voting down a TA that doesn't match their guidance. No matter what threats the MEC admins/management lay at their feet, no deal unless it meets the guidance.

Anything short of this and we'll get another COLA pay rate fully funded by concessions in other areas. Donatelli will proclaim it as a historic victory...then shred the survey results.

That's such a great point. In my 35 years at ALPA airlines, I never remember a survey for Section 6 negotiations that asked what concessions we wanted.

Sometimes this place feels like living in an alternate universe.

How do you sell concessions to keep the regional lifers employed, and with the same breath, talk about record contracts for your other constituents?

You lost me here Mesabah.

For the most part I agree with you about stock vs paycheck pay, but it is not an automatic no from me. I find options much more intriguing, but again it would depend on the structure. If there is any waiting period, deal's dead.

T,
Orvil was just relating how DALPA did act with some stock transactions. So, no, his characterization is not silly.

- A good *****-slap across the face

Result:
Our contract survey showed 63% of you preferred to be *****-slapped! Lets be sure to get that in C2015.

Priceless....

You think that's wrong?

Sure, it's wrong, and I have way too much respect for your intellectual acumen to think you missed the directions. You're being asked to rank the items from the most desirable, to the least desirable. You're not even permitted to exclude an item that you absolutely don't want: you simply have to label it least desirable, or it doesn't move to the next page. Not most undesirable, simply least desirable.

Your choices are, literally, to not have your survey counted, or to be forced to label things you want to avoid as desirable. Least desirable, but desirable nonetheless.

That's a good point, and I will try. But if I can't make it, I'd love for my survey to serve as my proxy, you know, just to clear up what I really want without my reps having to go through the mental gymnastics of comparing what Sink r8 really says he wants at the meetings, from what he tries to clear up in the free text box, from what Sink r8 is being forced to say on the survey.

It's just a thought, of course. I mean, you could do it that way, and for example, let the survey itself be the method for, you know, gauging pilot sentiment.

Or is that too weird?

I just realized that the DALPA operatives here have already dropped all pretense of obtaining a "home run" contract.

All of their posts here have been about why we must provide concessions--making the company's case, arguing why we need to grant relief. None of the DALPA operatives are even attempting to rally us towards massive improvements.

Why do we put up with this?
