The FAs withdrew their petition for representation. A ruling was made that disqualified some of the signatures and the wise thing was to withdraw and start the 12 month clock that is required between attempts. The signature drive is already organizing in some bases. It is all relevant, the timing couldn't be better for us they can't file again until after the new year and the industry raises will be in effect.

Anyone else notice this in the flight ops weekly update? Takeaways from the Leadership meeting in ATL.
"Ed focused on the company’s financial performance. Despite a strong performance in the second quarter, Delta is experiencing financial headwinds. Year-over-year passenger revenue has declined due in part to a softening of economies and devaluation of foreign currencies." And the lack of it in the 5 takeaways from Delta leadership meeting on Deltanet. The Deltanet takeaways were about the impressive rise with the help of the employees since bankruptcy. The global growth and globalization of Delta's partnerships and the successful year were also highlighted, but no mention of headwinds. Q3 has historically been the best performing quarter of the year by far. We will see if it continues, my guess is there will be another record setting quarter. That is not to say there isn't foreign exchange (FX) softening with the strong dollar but that is being addressed with foreign partnerships and ownership. Just seemed strange the company wide takeaways had a more upbeat tone. |
The message is definitely targeted to the audience.

Had the TA passed, he would have said "the contract was cost neutral with the profit sharing cut company wide" as champagne bubbles blew out his nose. I agree, he knows his audience at this event.

Last fall, Delta made a half payout of our anticipated Profit Sharing check.
Some said it was because Wall Street didn't like seeing large checks going to employees all at once. My Theory (opinion) was that it was a carefully designed incentive and threat towards the flight attendants coming up to their representation vote. To be completely honest, I didn't pay much attention. What happened to their vote? Is a representation vote still pending? Will Delta distribute another half of our anticipated PS check this fall? actions could be telling to what their true intentions are. I fully expect to hear from the same people that they don't care about what did or did not happen with any other employee group. However, it does set a pattern regarding their attitudes towards employees, or even a statement regarding their attitudes towards unions. This year's payout will be even larger than last year. And would such a payout or lack there of, constitute "Status Quo" or a violation of it? |

To comment on the bolded sentence above, when the dollar was weak, MGT's excuse for weak revenue was that the weak dollar discouraged US pax from traveling internationally. Now the strong dollar is discouraging international pax from traveling to the US. Sounds like we can't win. Our JV partners carried their citizens here when the dollar was weak and did very well, but now that the dollar has strengthened vs the euro and yen, we don't have anyone buying tickets to take advantage of the exchange rate to fly to Europe for a vacation/holiday. Am I looking at excuses and trying to make sense of Management BS? Or are we drawing the short end of the JV straw? God help us if it's both! The weak dollar hurt revenue, now very low oil prices and a strong dollar are hurting revenue? If I could make sense of it I could find a lucrative trading opportunity. |

I understand what they could do. Would this be a change to status quo as they never used bonuses in lieu of pay raises? Sounds like you say NO. I think a more aggressive union would (or could) say YES.

You have no idea if that's true or not. I think it would be a very interesting case to bring before the NMB as a violation of status quo based on what the company decided to do last year prior to our entry into Section 6.
Just another example of the Moak holdovers like yourself doing their best destroy this profession. Pathetic and shameful. Carl |

I disagree. Our PWA has nothing to do with the other employees. A "more aggressive union" using that argument would be dismissed out of hand. My guess: the other employees get a decent raise this fall and have their PS converted next year.
