If this is the case, spacing them out every few months won't do anything to get your app pulled.
I heard your version as well.

I got the email telling me to fix my flight training. I logged in cleaned it up. Got the interview email 7 weeks later. Was hired, and have been in the pool for an eternity.

All things remain constant time from interview email to showing up for indoc, you could have a child in that time period.

If there are any hiccups in the training pipeline your child will probably be out of diapers before you show up for indoc.

Good luck.

My understanding of the process as just an applicant (based on what I hear from the guys who have sent recs for me):

Once the internal rec email is received, and the application is hand-scored, the app is placed in the Tier 1/2/3 pile.

Once in one of those stacks, that's where it stays for 12 months without being re-scored, regardless of how many follow-on emails are sent to the board during that period. Once that 12 months is up, emails to be board trigger a re-scoring, and placement in one of the Tiers based on the most recent score.

I have heard RUMINT about that duration rolling back to 9 or even 6 months, but don't have any confirmation of that.

Had a fix it email 2 years ago about an expired Drivers License in airline apps. Fixed the date, emailed them back and nothing...

I now work for United.

What is the criteria used to place a candidate into one of the three tiers?

I can only go by what it says on the Pilot Selection Website. There it clearly states that you can only recommend a specific candidate once every 12 months. Nowhere does it say the candidate can only get one internal email rec every 12 months. That may well be the case but the "how do I recommend someone" PDF definitely doesn't say that. Unless you have first hand info otherwise, I'd still try to get more than one person to send in the email recommendation...can't hurt...

Go t one of the job fairs and listen to the Delta presentation on applications. They are very straight with what they are looking for. Your app is scored and those with the highest score get called first. Community service is big. An internal rec is important, but one is as good as 30. The exception being a ref from someone with real pull, like 4th floor or a CP. where you got flight training is huge. The like military and big civilian programs like embry riddle because the training program is a known cmmdodity. Military guys, if you put one entry for your entire career you will never get called. At least one entry per set of orders. Better yet, one for each billet, i.e. If you were operations officer and XO during a single tour, make two entries. Recommend you keep app up to date on a monthly basis, definately no less than every other month. Go to a job fair and get to the table, they will note you were there and that you made the effort even though I think they throw all the resumes away. NO TYPO's OR SPELLING ERRORS ON YOUR APP!! That will get it thrown out. Work experience back to high school with no gaps, explain any periods of non-employment (time in school doesn't need to be explained). Leadership. People skills. Customer service. Community service/giving back. My opinion only, that all weighs more than flight experience. That you can fly an airplane should never be in question.

I know this is not the data point anyone likes to see but I got a "fix it" email on one day, fixed the flagged items before I went to bed and had an interview invite literally the next day.

For reference, I was a very run of the mill candidate with a job fair, an internal rec, some well-written external rec letters and a lucky break.

That's great! I think you hit the nail on the head. We keep talking about and hearing "points", "scoring the app" and the rest, but I think you said it all when you said "lucky break". It's all about timing and luck.
