Default PB day usage vs max pickup

Hypothetical situation: max pickup limit is 15:00, if as a line holder I drop a 20 hour trip using PB days. Can I pick that trip back up via a WS or do I need to look for something under the 15:00 max pickup limit?

Your pickup limit will not change. 15 will be your max.

If you have a PB day and drop a trip do you still get paid for the trip? And do you have to have enough PB days for the whole trip or Justine day of it?

I ask because I've been trying to drop a reserve day with no luck but didn't know if it would be more advantageous to hold on to it for a month where I have a line

I would never use a PB day to drop a reserve day. You get the value of whatever you drop the day of the PB day. If you drop a day with 10 hours of time you get 10 hours pay. If you drop a reserve day you get whatever that was worth. If you drop a 3 day trip with one payback day you get the value of the first day of the trip only.

It's very category dependent. On categories where you can earn a significant number of PB days, you probably won't be able to drop a trip or even a reserve day. The worst thing you can have happen is turn them into supplemental vacation which is exactly happened with all of mine. While dropping a trip and GSing on top would be ideal it's not always possible.

From a purely financial POV that might be true. For me...I dig extra vacation time.

Good luck being able to drop the trip being on the 717.. In over a year I've yet to see a blue day. my PB days are just banked waiting for a chance to use them.. Good luck

Only works in LAX on the 717. Using PB days on reserve is a good strategy in a category like LAX717, where you have the ability to drop, yet there are several opportunities to GS. A few 717 FO's in LAX broke the 200 hour/month mark doing this, rumor has it.
