I heard that the museum has gotten ahold of one. I hope it's true as I'd love to see one at the museum.

I’d bid it even if it meant being the plug.

I almost went to work for Everts Air Cargo out of Alaska to get a chance to fly a DC-6. There is a consolation prize if you like those planes though as we do have a jumpseat agreement with them. They also operate C-46s, and now DC-9s as well as the only MD-88 freighters in the world. When they got the DC-9s they had to hire street captains because they didn't have anyone on property who'd flown a jet before.

Pardon me while I reminisce. As a kid I watched some of early Connies fly in. They were huge! The coolest plane I had seen, especially compared to some of the DC-3s still flying in. Boy am I old!

Wouldn’t that make sense for someone to bid off early? Are there other benefits to a MD I’m not thinking of? Curious more than anything else.

What would it take (how long) to get to MSP in absolutely any a/c, if domicile was all that mattered?

Really no way to answer that. Around mid July the next bid will have closed. It is restructuring the MSP base including closing the MD88 and opening a A330 category. Those results will provide more clarity.

3-5 years...a guess

Currently the most junior pilot in MSP has about 8 months with the company and all 3 types of narrow body equipment can be held with 18 months in the company. The changes in MSP will result in a increase of over 100 positions there. 3 to 5 years seems wildly pessimistic. I suspect 5 years will hold a Captain seat on MSP in 2023.
