I think it has far more to do with NYC than the ER. Obviously category and DOH dependent, but NYC adds roughly 10-15 years to your seniority if you were hired in the last 2 years.

I also don't think the fleet is dying off. In fact I think at a minimum we didn't execute planned cuts, but I'm pretty sure we're pulling jets from the bone yard and actively trying to purchase others on the used market. Just flew with an LCA who told me the problem with the used jet plan is FDX is also trying to buy used 757s and we like our jets nice'n'cheap. Bidding wars are not our style.

I don't know about that LOL!

Yes you get a higher relative seniority, but the flip side is most pilots have to commute there and the trip commutability is worse than most other bases relative to the same seniority. Back when the ER was the ER, it was a slam dunk. Now that its a blended category, its not nearly as sweet as before.

If you go back at look at the last 2-3 AE's, there were many unfilled slots on the NYC 7ERb.

It's not that they went unbid, the company just choose not to back fill openings.

I'm guessing Brian Bolt. He is the facilitator for the 2 week Indoc for Delta new hires. He is a great guy and does an awesome job. At least that was my opinion when I went thru 7 years ago.

it's my understanding that if current pilots bid it, they have to backfill if the pilots are not seat locked before offering to new hires.

I think many with more than a couple years of seniority who's willing to commute to NY will bypass the ER and go to the 765 or A330 for the significant increase in pay rate and all commutable trips, or they'll upgrade to 717/88-A.

I never observed him in that role. I recall him serving in some sort of minor role. He was civil enough, but still he had work to do to reach the lower end of the "great guy" range.

As the face of Delta to newhires, he doesn't seem to be popular among recent hires. OTOH, I hear there have been a few issues that he shouldn't be having to deal with at this level, so I wonder which is the chicken, and which is the egg. I'm going to go with him being the egg.
