ICT-Wichita area

Wichita
About all you can do right now being the dead of winter is get some chow and catch a movie or maybe a club act in the Old Town area of downtown. Look up "First Friday" and see what they have tonight- they have been organizing local bands into the downtown clubs to make club hopping easier.
Wichita has a fairly good zoo if you are into that, seems like it would be pretty cold with subfreezing temps. There's not much of a bus system in Wichita, so you will need a rental car. Here's a few things to look into:
Movies- Palace West; Ridge Rd. Very near ICT. Cheap.
Movies- Warren Theatre downtown. Only theater I have ever seen that serves alcohol and serious food.
Comedy club- The Looney Bin on 21st.
Kansas Aviation Museum- small museum near McConnell AFB.
Restaurants. Most of the good ones are in Old Town, which is what they call the renovated part of downtown. Beef in the midwest tends to be pretty good and by the same token avoid seafood unless you want it frozen.
Hangar One -5 minutes from ICT. Opened last year, pretty good steaks.
Yia Yia's - northeast side, a tad expensive
Uptown Bistro -Old Town
Larkspur- Old Town
Whiskey Creek- Old Town
PumpHouse -Old Town
Sabor - Old Town
Bella Luna- several locations
El Gaucho -Brazilian barbecue
Fox and Hound - east side; tad expensive
Granite City- multiple locations; fresh beer
La Galette -lunch only, greasy spoon
Sumo Hibachi -13th St. northeast side
Sweet Basil's -Italian on northeast side
Onoe's - Old Town; cocktails and wine only
Luigi's
Chester's ChopHouse- steaks; northeast side of town; good somaliere Scotch and Sirloin- pricey; best steaks
Bonefish Grill - Old Town; fish; 13th near Warren theatre
Red Rock Canyon- steaks
Grozzo's- Italian Tommies- Tyler and 21st
Abuelo's
Savuete's
DeFazio's
Decent beer retailer - Gobel's (West St.) not far from ICT.
If I were stuck at the Airport Hilton tonight or the Holiday Inn Express, I would go to Hangar One for dinner then either see a movie or go to Old Town and catch a First Friday act. If you go to Old Town be careful they are very aggressive about DUI checks so take a cab if you have any doubt about your BAC level. I've been pulled over for nothing before.

This a pretty good steak house near ICT if you are airborne and want to land, eat and run. Not great but good. Otherwise park the plane at ICT and drive to Larkspur or one of the other choices near there.
