They usually exhaust 80% of the reserves when an IROP happens, so we’re just slightly overstaffed in some categories. Time off without pay was limited to maybe 2-3% of the pilot group and only in some seats.
Best approach for a reserve to take is drop reserve days and pickup from the trade board or open time (there is no pay differential until one gets back to 75 credits). One can usually drop enough reserve days to pickup a 22 hour 4 day and not exhaust themself. Otherwise yes, you will be sitting around and only flying 30 hours tops per month. Lots of deadheads. The airlines where everyone is flying 75 hours a month on reserve are understaffed. Endeavor is staffed like a major.

It is what you make it. On the CA side, most of the grid is green, so you can drop your reserve and pick up stuff from open time or trade board.
It is slim pickings to plan ahead, but there's a lot of stuff that pops up at the last minute.
But someone sitting short call for the entire month...I'd say 30 hours is high lol
Winter flying, combined with being way over-staffed, combined with people like me being on flica 24 hours a day sniping open time trips before they get assigned to reserves...some might call it "bad"...I'm not one of those people

Look were over staffed, plan and simple, no one will kid you on that but growth is coming. It’s just a matter of not if but when. The rumors suggest late this year. We are over staffed because growth was planned on being this April and not more like late Fall. If I were a new FO I’d rather be here than anywhere else regional wise.
If you wanna fly a lot of hours and sacrifice your QOL, go to air wisconsin, they’ll fly you to the point you wanna leave the industry.
