The naked truth is this. Skywest has a very cheap cost basis, especially with modular rate structure they offer delta for many cities out west. Mod rates change under variable conditions. What’s this mean? It means they don’t have a CPA and it’s much cheaper. That plus they fly the better plane makes 9E growth questionable during inflation, market volatility and higher fuel prices. Then there’s the A220 which changes the game completely. This thing burns 1600 a side fully loaded at Mach 0.79 at FL400. Short runways and steep approach angles. Delta may be in their 10,000th mind change, but doing the math, growth at 9E makes no bloody sense.

Delta tried to transfer RAH's east coast slots to Endeavor, but the bankruptcy judge denied that request. That's what really hurt us as far as having something Delta needs. We are just a poker chip like GoJet, and Compass. We had it good during the pilot shortage, but now that that is over, we are the highest cost option.
I think we're just looking at stagnation and a long way away (couple years) a wind down.

The people we are hiring now started flying while we were still paying bankruptcy wages. Airlines that pay significantly less than us are filling classes.

We have 6 years left on the Bridge agreement, so we will be around that long at least. The pilot shortage was not caused by pay, it was caused by lag time for the 1500hr rule. They had to pay more to stop people from bailing out of here to other regionals. Those pilots that bailed have flowed to AA already.

Hiring is still going to increase at majors, maybe the stagnation and DGI results will push guys to airlines besides Delta. Except for the senior 500 I suppose.

I’ll take rumors on here with a grain of salt, but it is definitely true that a new hire today will have nowhere near the opportunity and qol someone hired here in 2015 thru early 2016 enjoys. For that we’d need growth and 30+ a month attrition in parallel, which both seem like a long shot the way things have been and are looking.

Gee didn't I warn this wasn't a never ending gravy train a couple years ago???? I didn't say it was going to be as bad as guys my seniority had it, but it wasn't going to be the place to go for ever. I hope the junior guys are happy with what improvements we have for reserves now, and I hope the junior lineholders didn't get too comfortable in case the doo doo hits the sprayer Anyone still sitting here just waiting on the DGI alone and not putting apps out to all the other options, well I guess you can lead a fool to water but you can't force them to drink it. Keep in mind the top 500 on the list are basically all lifers so keep that in your calculations too. We aren't going anywhere until downgrade is impending, if then.
