Our rules are specific to this airline, so don’t apply them to any other airline. With our commute during call in, your commute has to arrive in LGA or JFK by the end of the first possible call out time. fter you finish commuting, you check your phone to see about any messages from crew scheduling, if there are none, you go back to a 2.5 hour call out to both airports.

I just looked at the openings. 99% probably you will be based in NYC. You can expect to spend a few years in LGA/JFK. Even if you escape it as a FO after about a year in NYC. All new captains end up in NYC for about 2 years at the very least.

Not sure what you were looking at, but there are openings available for new hires in NYC, DTW, and CVG. Even before the growth, CAs could hold DTW (reserve) relatively quickly. New upgrades are being awarded DTW, and not just to really senior FOs who have been holding out for it.

Obviously this is a period of growth and who knows what things will look like in the near or distant future. NYC will always be junior, but with the growth in DTW, ATL, and now CVG, NYC is playing a less prominent role in our system.

I literally spent a few months in nyc. Still going though training and got dtw (first choice) on the initial vac this month after 2 months. Expecting not to actually move til march/April though.

Good for you bro. You haven’t been here long enough I guess. Wait till you take the NYC upgrade.

Wrong.

I spent about 7-8 months in NYC before getting out.

I meant they are reserve captains in DTW and MSP. Not Nyc.

Obviously it's different after upgrades but I thought this post was asking about picking a base as an fo? I just gave my insight. No need to be harsh about it.

I'm calling BS on that. Nobody hired in 2015 holds MSP captain, nobody. How are they not holding a line in DTW as a captain, I guess maybe they couldn't on the 900, haven't looked recently.
